Can you tell me where is the engine timing marks on volvo s40 with cvvt pully on exhaust cam

I have been looking for repair manuals and calling all kinds of people and i can not find. I need the timing marks for the timing belt on a 2001 volvo S40 turbo 1.9 if anyone can help me with picture or details i would gladly appreciate ur time.

There are marks on the crank pulley and cam gears. Cam gears should align upwards with the marks on the top timing cover. Crank will have a slot to line up with the crank pulley. pay attention to marks One mistake and its all over.

If I remember correctly, when you remove the timing belt cover, the marks are on the plastic piece that remains on the car after you take the outside timing belt cover off ( the piece between the pulleys and the engine)

There are small groves in the cam pullys at the top on these you are ment to remove the caps at the other end of the head and put the special locking tool in i only ever use this for changing vvti pullys normally i use tip x to do them never had one wrong yet

Timing belt alignment markings

Here is all the tech info for removing and replacing....hope this helps you:

4-Cylinder Engine

Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
Remove or disconnect the following:
- Negative battery cable
- Right hand engine cover
- Cover over the right headlamp
- Accessory drive belt
- Front timing cover
- Servo reservoir
Position Volvo lifting beam 999 5006 or equivalent slightly in front of the front lifting eyelet for the engine. Use Volvo lifting arm 999 5383 or equivalent and Volvo lifting hook 999 5460 or equivalent to raise the front of the engine a few millimeters.
Remove or disconnect the following:
- Right-hand engine mount
- Right front wheel
Turn the crankshaft until the markings on the crankshaft and camshaft pulley correspond. Turn the crankshaft a further 1/4 turn clockwise and then back again until the markings correspond. The markings are illustrated. Remove the upper timing cover.
Slacken off the center screw for the belt tensioner slightly.
Turn the tensioner clockwise to 10 o'clock.
Remove or disconnect the following:
- Air baffles
- Lower belt cover
- Timing belt

To install:

Turn all the pulleys listening for bearing noise. Check to see that the contact surfaces are clean and smooth. If the tensioner pulley lever or idler is seized, replace it.
If replacing with a new idler pulley, tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
If replacing tension pulley, screw into place using the center bolt by hand. Ensure that the tensioner fork is centered over the cylinder block rib. Ensure that the Allen hole on the eccentric is at "10 o'clock".
Install the timing belt in the following order:
1. Around the crankshaft sprocket
2. Around the idler pulley
3. Around the camshaft sprockets
4. Around the water pump
5. Onto the belt tensioner
Carefully turn the crankshaft clockwise until the timing belt is tensioned. The belt must be tensioned between the intake camshaft pulley, the idler pulley and the crankshaft
Hold the belt tensioner center screw secure. Turn the belt tensioner eccentric counter-clockwise until the tensioner indicator passes the marked position.
Then turn the eccentric back so that the indicator reaches the marked position in the center of the window and tighten the center bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
Press the belt to check that the indicator on the tensioner moves easily.
Install or connect the following:
- Lower belt guard
- Air baffles
- Upper timing cover
Turn the crankshaft two turns. Check that the markings on the crankshaft and camshaft pulley correspond.

NOTE Check that the indicator on the belt tensioner is within the marked area.

Install or connect the following:
- Lower timing cover
- Front timing cover and tighten to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)
- Accessory drive belt
- Engine mount and tighten to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm)
- Servo reservoir. Tighten bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
- Front wheel
- Right hand engine cover
- Cover over the right headlamp
- Negative battery cable

The timing marks on the cam gears align with the timing marks in the rear timing cover. The timing mark on the crank gear aligns with the timing mark on the oil pump assembly.
The tensioner is set by rotating the tensioner clockwise until the holes in the tabs on the left side of the tensioner are aligned, then tighten the center bolt.

2000 Volvo s80 t6 engine will not start.

I'm too familiar with the T6 engine, but I *think* the T6 engine has the CVVT solenoid right by the exhaust cam and they are known to get weird and you need to clean it.
I believe Volvo has a gasket with a screen in it to keep it clean.

The cam sensors are pretty sturdy and rarely fail, so I'd check that last.

Did this happen right after a timing belt change? If so, I'd double and triple check that you got everything lined up exactly right. My process is usually to use white-out to mark the old belt and gears and then transfer the marks to the new belt and if all marks still line up when it's back together I am good (and yes, it's been good this far hehe).

If it's the CVVT sensor, buy a new gasket, remove the sensor, soak it in carb cleaner and give it a "work-out" with 12 volts if you have a battery charger or whatnot. It's possibly a fresh 9v battery might work too.

If you got any other codes, even if you don't think they're related, they might be.

I wouldn't touch any other systems if the car would run before and now won't, and all you touched is the cam timing and that's the code you got. Fix that first, THEN if you have other issues, you can tackle them.

I can,t find the timing mark for the left cam closest to the firewall on a 2001 volvo s40 1.9Lt. turbocharged engine

you need a special tool for hold 2 cams, also the crankshaft. once you attach the tools
in cams and crank, you can install the sprockets and timing belt.

i took the exhaust cam pulley off my 01 s40 while replacing timing belt and seals. in doing so the camshaft moved out of time. now i am lost because i cant find a timing mark on the shaft itself. does anybody know how to reset the exaust cam to where its suppose to be? i could not believe the pulley was'nt keyed in or something. please help!

The CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) system is installed to the chain sprocket of the exhaust camshaft. There is no variation in valve timing of the exhaust cam because the exhaust camshaft is driven by the timing belt. The timing of the intake cam is varied by the relative operation the CVVT vane to the housing. This system helps the engine decrease exhaust gases and increase engine power and fuel economy by changing the valve open/close timing of the intake camshaft.

The code you are getting can be caused by a mechanical problem with the CVVT or with an Engine Control Module (ECM) malfunction. The most common cause of a mechanical failure of this system is debris clogging the very small oil ports that control the position of the CVVT vane hub. Improper oil viscosity can affect this as well as deposits caused by not changing oil at the specified intervals.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that deals with properly checking the CVVT system for mechanical/electrical failures. It is bulletin Number 09-EM-002.

the variable timing wheel should be on the inlet cam. the timing marks should align on cams upper of rear inner belt cover the crank upper of oil pump housing

How to fit a cambelt on a volvo s60 t5

remove drivers wheel then plastic wheel arch then put jack under engine and remove the engine mount then take off fan belt and timing belt cover mark your two top cam pullys and the crank pully then remove your belt and tensioner put new belt and tensioner on making sure all your marks line up then put on the crank pully and turn engine over twice by hand using a ratchett on the crank pully bolt if it turns over and your marks still line up put it all back together and start the car
