ABS warning light and parking brake light are on in dash. As per owners manual, it states not to drive vehicle. Is it possible that a build up of ice or snow within the wheeels will cause the warning lights to come on.As of today, no issues with vehicle brakes or ABS, but weather conditions in southwestern Ontario have been pretty bad as of late Any help would be appreciated Thank you Paul

so unplug it to see that its not CAUSE.


parting shot, i make sure all red lamp devices are unplugged
1 by 1 to know which one is tripping, the lamp.
then after bleeded, I step on the brake pedal real hard.

and this will centralize the DIFF VALVE NOW>
if not the brakes have air in the system.
or the DIFF VALVE is seized.
they can stick so, learn the MONSTER FOOT brake test./
use max brake pedal pressure now.

there is a parking lamp too. that glows and will warn of low fluid levels.
are you working on the car with no scan tool?
is yes, then you miss out on all those brake error DTCs

Check the level of your brake fluid or your brake pads may be worn down and time to have them checked out.

Possibly a defective ABS sensor, or low brake fluid. Recommend a reputable mechanic to assess the issue.

Possible but not likely in the 96 model. The owners manual would tell you. The ABS warning light is on the dash board cluster and is normally an ABS inside a circle. ABS didn't become real popular until the 2000 year model when FORD and Mercury made that essentially a standard for all models.

You need to have your vehicle diagnosed and
repaired, any time, any Malfunction Indicator
Light comes on your dash

You have a possible issue with your ABS Braking System
Do not use it until repaired

Your ABS control module has failed. It can fail in two areas.. either the fuse controlling it which is a large fuse and located in the engine cmpartment on most vehicles or the actual ABS actuator control module which is a computer driven box located on bottom of vehicle that pumps the brakes to make them antilock (think how in the 70s you were told to pump brakes, now the car pumps its own brakes) The computer module is what burns out leaving you without ABS but not brakes themselves. Your car indicates this by showing you an ABS error light and a brake light. You are not in danger by driving the vehicle you just will NOT have antilock brakes in the event of an accident and could slide if you lock the brakes by slamming them down. Check your owners manual for the fuse location in your vehicle and inspect it. If its burned out replace it and see if this fixes the problem This is a 3-7 dollar fuse. If that doesnt do the trick unfortunately the repair is very expensive 700+ dollars for a new control unit.

depending on the system if it is 2 channel or 4 channel one of the sensors that are located on the backing plate located behind calipers is eithier faulty or dirty you can try brake cleaner these sensors use a small magnet pickup device to sense when the wheel "locks up"
