My 2000 Ford Explorer makes a clicking sound (not a turning over sound) when I try to start it. THe lights, radio, and air conditioner seem to work fine. Once the car is jumped...which happens easily, it drives well.

Check your battery voltage when the car is not running. Check voltage again as someone else holds the key to START. Check voltage again after you've jump started it. First reading sould be about 12.5 to 13 volts. Second reading should be greater than 10 volts, and last reading should be 13.5 to 14.6 volts. If first two readings are low, your battery is not charged, or won't hold a charge (defective). if the 'while running' test is less than prescribed, then your alternator is not putting out enough voltage to charge your battery and should be replaced.

Ac does not work/radio lights dim or off

Sounds like a bad ground connection! If you have a voltmeter, try measuring the battery voltage first! It SHOULD be 13.8 to 14.6 with engine running, and the alternator charging the battery!

When i try to start my 2000 Ford Explorer, all the lights on the dash go on like it's going to start but the engine doesn't turn over, all you hear is a clicking sound.

sounds like the starter, if the battery is good, have someone tap on the starter while the ignition is turned. You can pull the starter off and a auto parts store can check it out. Hope This Helped Tim

Head lights are strong. no sound when key is turned. inside lights and radio go out, but head lights and trouble lights stay on

starter circut is not functioning. the radio and interior lights along with many other "auxillary" systems are on a switch that temporarly disables them when you start the vehicle. That system is working, the starting system sounds like it is not. Check Starter and Starting Solinoid. This applies to all Ranger, Explorer vehicles OHV 4.0, SOHC 4.0 and HO5.0 powertrains.

1999 Ford Explorer xlt

If your car is losing power, then turning on the air conditioner will make it seem like you are losing more. The air conditioner uses a couple of horsepower. Take the car to Autozone and ask them to check for engine codes - I assume that the engine light is on? I think that it is an O2 sensor.
P.S. My opinion is that Ford Explorer is one of the best cars I have ever owned (I have had three). What I hear is that the Dodge is a much more problematic piece of machinery. Of course that is only my opinion.
