My 97 Hyundai lantra won't turn on. It has an immobiliser and the dealer said I have to put my foot on the clutch when turning it on which I do, but still it won't turn on. The dash lights come on as does the radio but still, it just won't start. I read theres an override toggle switch but what does it do exactly? What could b the problem?

The car hasn't been in a collision to my knowledge, I only bought it less than a week ago. Should I press the reset button if there was no collision?

Hello! Yes, push the button...let me know if the engine starts...the initial trouble report mentions the immobilizer, that is why I defined and located it...Let me take a fresh look at this if the engine still doesn't start...When you turn the key do you hear a click ; Or nothing at all? Send a comment...

Immobiliser ?????? so i have been told

If, when you switch the ignition on, you get a dash light on, the symbol is a car with a key overlaid, you have somehow activated the immobilser You could try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, this may reset the immobiliser, If this does not work you will have to contact a Hyundai dealer to get the immobiliser unlock code.

97 Hyundai Lantra. Temp gauge shows engine very hot

If the replacement thermostat is good, and installed properly, then the temp sensor might be bad. I hate to tell you ($$$$$) but waterpump could be bad (more expensive)
