It might be easier to change the other lock combinations to suit new key however what you were told maybe correct. NEVER use wd40 or such on locks, it gathers dust and jams,. Use graphite dust...readily available in bottles with suitable spouts for locks. Saab ignition locks and contacts cause mysterious problems. You now have one which works, Be happy instead of trying to prove the repairer to be wrong. You should be able to tell now whether the lock and key combination works ok for a start. If you want to repair your old one or continue with the matter ...take the assembly and key (you only had one key to try??) to a locksmith the tumblers may be replaceable and the key recut...The obvious is that were it the key worn it could have been replaced by a new one cut to saab's soecific directions (as opposed to cutting off the old "worn" profile...There are specific measurements in these locks which saab lists in keycutter's books) ...but then maybe tumblers were worn also.Maybe even the wd 40 stuff was used another time and caused a blockage but I think you should also note what I write below.
I agree it feels "not quite right" at 120K. Often the steering wheel has to be turned to relieve the pressure on the steering lock and allow the steering lock to retract or the key will not turn.Did you do that?..move wheel clock and anticlock to see if that freed the movement? To start again start with sureties...I repeat, take it to a locksmith, have it checked and repaired if you want to go that way...Cheers Tony.
Hello
The engine
and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train
are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM
(Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the
computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some
exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature
sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in
its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems
memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read
you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and
resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A
TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR
HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM
