Theres is a way, you can do it with a scan tool or remove a battery connection for 5min, the check engine light can come on for many reasons, when the computer sees a problem with the engine sensors or trany that is out of specs it will turn on the light and store a codes in the computer, this codes will tell you what part of what system is failing, i would have the codes read to see what the problem is, this way you dont do any further damage, many autopart stores will scan the codes for free, i think you should get the code or codes and i will help you further, good luck and i hope this helps.
I have a GMC Canyon that has the same problem i had it checked and there was 6 or 7 thing wrong with it.. Sometimes you can clean the throttle body and it may help.. Something else dont take the termenal off for 5 mins cause it my throw it in a Lock 3 code which may shut the system down and drain battery and other things.. If it does this turn ur key on but dont start it leave it on for 10 mins and that will get it out of lock if it dont they want you to take it to a dealer to reset the computer.. But i did it on mine and i think it worked.. After 10mins just turn the key back off and start it..
Some time by diconnecting the battery the light will go off mostley its your o2 sensor
I fits on, there is a problem. You will need a shop to scan it for trouble codes and recommend repairs.
