FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired. Need the plug order on distributor cap on a 1994 ford explorer

Check out autozone.com. Once you register you can look up all kinds of information for your vehicle. How to information, wiring diagrams, exploded views, firing orders, diagnostic code information, etc. As far as I know the 94 explorer had a 4.0 liter with distributorless ignition. Are you sure you have a 94 explorer with a 4.0 liter engine? On the 4.0 liter the passenger side of the engine are cylinders 1-2-3 the drivers side is 4-5-6. The cylinders should be labeled on the coil pack. The passenger side of the coil pack will be cylinders 1-2-3 from front to back. The drivers side is a little tricky. From front to back it will be cylinders 5-6-4. Lt me know if you have any questions. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairinfo/repairguide/repairGuideContent.jsp?pageId=0996b43f802c54b3

Firing Order diagram for 2006 Ford Explorer

Hope this helps. The ignition coil:
  • changes low-voltage pulses from the PCM to high-voltage pulses.
  • fires 2 spark plugs simultaneously.
  • has 3 transformers.
    • One transformer fires the spark plugs for cylinders 1 and 5
    • One transformer fires the spark plugs for cylinders 2 and 6
    • One transformer fires the spark plugs for cylinders 3 and 4
Spark plug wires:
  • carry high-voltage pulses from the ignition coil to the spark plugs.
The spark plugs:
  • change high-voltage pulses to spark at the gap, which ignites the fuel and air mixture.
The firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6.
