This label shows the accessory belt routing on a Lumina with a 3.1L engine

i need to replace my serpateen belt how do i do - c17hydro_56.gif

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the drive belt shield.
  3. Fit a 3/8 inch breaker bar or ratchet to the square hole in the tensioner. Lift, or rotate the tensioner off of the drive belt. When the tension on the belt is removed, slide the drive belt from the pulleys.

To install:

  1. Taking care to follow the proper routing of the belt, slip the belt onto the pulleys. As a help, note that the water pump pulley is usually driven from the back (smooth side) of the belt.
  2. Fit a 3/8 -inch breaker bar or ratchet to the square hole in the tensioner. Lift, or rotate the tensioner and, with the belt in place, gently release the tensioner.
  3. Verify that the belt is correctly routed and aligned in the proper grooves of the accessory drive belt pulleys. Inspect the drive belt length scale on the drive belt tensioner for the proper indicated length. If the drive belt length scale does not indicate the proper installed length, the belt may be incorrect, incorrectly installed, worn out or the tensioner may be defective.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the vehicle and verify correct operation.
// // 0) preLoad.src = ctl00_cphLeft_chRepairTreeNav_tvTOC_ImageArray[i]; } ctl00_cphLeft_chRepairTreeNav_tvTOC_Data.lastIndex = 58; ctl00_cphLeft_chRepairTreeNav_tvTOC_Data.populateLog = theForm.elements['ctl00_cphLeft_chRepairTreeNav_tvTOC_PopulateLog']; ctl00_cphLeft_chRepairTreeNav_tvTOC_Data.treeViewID = 'ctl00$cphLeft$chRepairTreeNav$tvTOC'; ctl00_cphLeft_chRepairTreeNav_tvTOC_Data.name = 'ctl00_cphLeft_chRepairTreeNav_tvTOC_Data'; //]]> var _strTreeScrollHidName = 'ctl00_hidTreeScrollPos';

Same as above. I can't get the diagram to post. If you post a response, then I can post it in the new comment block.

What size is your motor? The 3.1L or the 3.4L?

How to route serpateen belt without ac for 1996ford taurus

Not sure about Ford routing but you normally can find the routing on the front radiator brace when you raise the hood. It is pretty much standard for the manufactures to put it there.

Noisy fan belt

with a noisy belt its caused by a worn belt, belt not tight enough,a pulley in poor condition or grease/oil on the belt.check the condition of the belt, make sure the belt is tight enough.if it has an auto belt tensioner it may not be any good and need replacing.if the noisy belt doesn`t use an auto tensioner then the belt will need tightening.if its grease/oil then the belt will need to be replaced and the pulley`s cleaned off.

My serpentine belt went how do i change the belt do i need a special tool

Identify which belts need to be replaced. If you are replacing the air conditioner belt, you may need to remove the alternator belt because of the way the belts are shared on the crankshaft pulley. As a result, some mechanics recommend replacing both belts together.
  • Step 2 Loosen the lock bolt for the belt you are replacing using owner's documentation. The lock bolt will be near the belt tensioner component.
  • Step 3 Turn the adjustment bolt to change tension on the belt. When the belt is loose enough, slip it off.
  • Step 4 Use your memory or a belt routing diagram to install the new belt on all pulleys.
  • Step 5 Adjust the adjustment bolt to replace tension on the belt. Tighten the lock bolt.
  • Step 6 Make sure the belt is correctly seated on all pulleys and that the ribs fit into grooves on the pulleys.
  • Step 7 Run the engine and check for any flapping or looseness that could indicate incorrect installation.
  • This was copied from the service manual.

How often should you get engine belts replaced and what belts need to be replaced?

Replace belts as needed, check for cracks on the sides of the belts or pieces missing from belt. A good belt should last 100,000 miles. and it is a good practice to replace at 100,000 even if it looks good. REPLACE ALL BELTS as needed.

How can i stop my AC belt from making noises when my AC is on

The reason your belt is making a noise is either your belt is worn and needs replacing or the belt tension is out of adjustment and needs checking and adjusting.
It is a good idea to replace it anyway specially if the belt has small cracks on the inside.

The camshaft is not driven by the serpentine belt, it is driven by a separate belt under the plastic timing cover.

How do I tighten the A/C belt on my 2008 Mazda 5? The darn thing is squealing so loud but I can't seem to find a tensioner anywhere...

If it is a serpentine belt is is self adjusting. So if it is squealing then it needs replacing as it is worn out. And also possibly the tensioner needs replacing as it may not be holding sufficient tension on the belt. If it is a drive belt it more than likely still needs replacing as it will have become glazed from slipping. On a drive belt it is adjusted by loosening the mounting bracket on the A/C and moving it in a direction that tightens the belt.
