2001 chevy malibu Ls - Cooling fans on constantly, fuses are good and the temp. gauge at zero. Inside fan is blowing heat so the thermostat is open. Relay? Are the cooling fans hooked in a series to from the sensor to the gauge then to the fans? There is a sensor near the goose neck for the thermostat. Relay or sensor the problem?

Turn ac off then the fan will go off make sure ac button if you have one isnt pushed inwait a minute fan should turn off does temp gauge inside car raise in temp after running a while
on that vehicle, the engine coolant switch may be stuck open, causeing the fans to think that the engine needs to be cooledon that vehicle, the engine coolant switch may be stuck open, causeing the fans to think that the engine needs to be cooled

Overheating Due to corrosion block in Water Pump on Erratic engine coolant temperature or intermittent overheating can be caused by corrosion inside the water pump. ...Either condition reduces coolant circulation resulting in engine overheating.
SOUND LIKE ENGINE RUNNING HOT.MAKE SURE COOLING FAN TURNING ON. WHILE ENGINE IDLING WATCH TEMP GAUGE AS THE TEMP CLIMB COOLING FAN SUPPOSE TO TURN ON IF NOT.CHECK FAN FUSE AND RELAY. IF BOTH GOOD HOT WIRE IT. NO RUN REPLACE FAN MOTOR IF FAN MOTOR DO RUN. YOU COULD HAVE A FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR SHORT IN FAN CONNECTOR OR WIRES. CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50/50 MIXTURE OF WATER AND ANTIFREEZE.TO BE ON SAFE SIDE REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND PRESSURE CAP.
Check the cooling fan, its sensor, the relay, the fuse. On most cars the fan is not needed on the highway, but engine overheats it it doesn't switch on inside the city. Also, clean the system with a special liquid according to the directions on the can and use coolant after that, water causes corrosion. While pouring/filling/cleaning, keep the heat switch on max heating to allw circulation via the heating radiator.
replace coolant sensor connector?if so can u get a thermo lazer gun to check the block temp? this will tell u if the gauge is incorect,,,go ahead a bleed all the air out of cooling system and see if that does the trick
First, make sure that the temp sensor is plugged in and working. If not change it. If problem persists, check fan relay and sensor. It is doubtful that the problem is the thermostat because if open the fans would never come on (running too cold) and if stuck closed you wouldn't have to wonder if it was overheating... (would be blowing antifreeze out everywhere)
the relays control circuit is grounded by ECM (computer) . to check this make sure the is hot enough for the fans to be commanded on by computer and check to see if you have voltage at relay and it has ground from computer . you may need ECM.
good luck
