SOURCE: I'm replacing the tail shaft
Drive it home with a ball peen hammer.Just a note here, behind every leaking seal is a worn out bushing,so don't be surprised if replacing the seal doesn't stop the leak.Inside the tailshaft housing is a bushing that engages the driveshaft yoke.It should be a fairly tight fit when the yoke is installed and the driveshaft is bolted up.Grasp the driveshaft and yoke and wiggle it up and down, should be just a couple thousandths play.If excessive play,it needs a new bushing which entales removing the extension housing, driving out old bushing, and driving in new bushing which requires bushing drivers. But the seal, you just drive it in with a hammer. It will want to walk the opposite direction,so you have to press it down with your other hand while hitting it with the hammer. Also make sure the seal has some lube on it where it contacts the yoke.A dry seal will rip and leak.

Hi Caarl
The lateral movement in the output shaft is normal and nothing to worry about.
SOURCE: timing belt 2005 4 cylinder camry
Hello, A 2005 Camry with a 2.4 4 cylinder engine has a timing CHAIN not belt. I don't think that there is a routine maintenance schedule for this. If there is no audible noise coming from the chain area, you probably have nothing to worry about.
I hope this helps

Since your friend just replaced the timing belt, there wouldn't be a need to replace the oil pump O-ring and crankshaft seal unless they were leaking.
No, you cannot get to the oil pump unless the crankshaft, lower timing belt cover and belt are removed.
I have the same exact car with the same engine and just replaced the oil pump O-ring and crankshaft seal. I'm a good mechanic, but this is a tedious and time consuming job, but It can be done if you have good mechanic skills.
VERY IMPORTANT.
There is a big chance that the car's engine timing will be off, have
someone who is knowledgeable to set the engine timing. If you don't and
try to start the car, serious engine damage will probably occur.
ALSO IMPORTANT.
When you get the oil pump off removed all the old O-ring the new oil
ring will not stay in place, I used petroleum jelly to keep the ring in
place, it's perfectly safe and won't affect the operation of the oil
pump.
If your not sure you can do the repair yourself, take it to a mechanic.
SOURCE: oil leak problem with 1996 toyota camry
I am going to see a mechanic - my trusted mechanic who does not nickel and dime me - to see what this is. I have the same problem and he told me he has never done this job on a Camry and is unsure. Given the miles, he has suggested that maybe it is time to part ways with the car. I am going to ask him if he will put some florescent dye in it and let me drive it for 50-100 mi and then check to see where the leak is and fix it. Let you know what happens. I have to try, the car is solid.
