My Mazda has just started making a loud roaring noise only when accelerating. It's OK when idling. Any ideas.

Thx for the answer. It sounds easy enough, but pray tell, where is the airbox?

It will either be an inlet or outlet fault so here you go:

Open engine lid, check that the pipe from the airbox to the engine is secure and not split, change or reconnect

If all ok there then it could be a catalyst blown or a gasket. Just get someone to listen while the car is held at 3000rpm.

It is the big Black plastic box to the side of the engine bay.

    Hope you get it sorted.

Whats making my 1999 mercury sable make a loud roaring sound while driving? and sometimes it stalls when stopping or slowing down.

Used tires sometimes are used for a reason. Also make sure your brakes are releasing completely (especially the emergency brake)...sometimes over-tightening wheels on to the disc brakes can cause excessive noise.

2004 Mazda MPV makes loud sound when driving faster than about 60 km/hr

There is no way to estimate cost until you know the exact case of the noise. See the dealer for a test drive so a tech can listen to it.

Roaring sound coming from front end as Mazda gains speed. Turning steering wheel changes the frquency of the noise.

You have a front wheel bearing that is making noise. Usually the one that is the problem is louder when turning in the opposite direction. If you turn right and noise gets loud then its your left bearing and if you turn left and the noise gets loud then its your right bearing. Understand that thats just a rule of thumb and that either bearing can make noise in either direction. Good luck!
