Ok there is a difference between the check engine light and service vehicle soon light. The service vehicle soon light comes on when a bulb is out on the daytime running lights. Check your bulbs if there is one out and you put a new one in it will most likely take car of problem.

Hi,
olds aleros and pontiacs have qwerks like those, I had a 97 grand prix that was quite qwerky. We went through the mill to get the service light out, it was the spark plug wires, plugs and dirty injectors to get that light out, its the exhaust mixture sensor sensing an incomplete burn that turns that light on, may be others but that one for sure. probably have a sensor loose, dirty, busted or grounded at one of the wheels for the abs, fix that and the trac button will probably start working again. hang onto the olds if you can , it will be worth money someday.

good luck

Trac off light on

What kind of scanner are you using. that is a CAN vehicle and not just any OBDII scanner will work to read abs codes. Go to an Oreillys Auto Parts store and get the ABS codes read and message me back with the codes and I will be happy to help.

My problem is the same as most others. Anti-lock brakes, service engine soon, trac off lights on. Before they would come on intermittemtly bu recently stays on. Called GM last week and was told to take it...

Your anti lock brake light is part of your traction contol lights so that is most likely a wheel sensor and would be a separate problem from your check engine light.
Do you have an auto parts store near by? They can check these codes for free if so

My 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4L,(Quad 4) the TRAC OFF and Service Engine Soon warning lights came on out of the blue after i changed the water pump and camshaft housing gaskets? Any ideas on why I think...

You will have to retrieve the engine faulty code with a scanner to see.
Explaining in some case when the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) sense a problem for some code it will deactivate the TRACTION system for security.
I believe there is a faulty code after the code is solved then erase all codes and try again. The TRACTION light should be back on.

Hope it helps.

There's a little light that says "low trac" that goes on when i turn on my 1998 chevy cavalier.... what does it mean??

means the traction control module is bad. That light is suppose to come on when you lose traction to let you know the traction control is kicking in.

Why would my service engine light, trac off light, and anti lock break lights go on at different times when I drive?

well for one the traction and antilock lights are the same sensor. If the anitlock brake sensor goes bad and cannot count your wheel rotations then your traction control system will not work either. AS for the service engine soon light that could be part of this system also or it could be totally different you wont know until you get your code read

Replaced bank 1 sensor 1 O2 sensor with an OE

Those lights indicate an issue with ABS or traction control systems. In order to properly diagnose the problem the vehicle's codes will need to be read with a scanner.

Generally speaking there is no danger in driving the vehicle but be aware you may not have functioning traction control and/or ABS while those lights are present.

Traction Control Off and Service ABS System

If your trac and abs are both on. the problem could be a wheel speed sensor.
on some GM cars this sensor is built into the vehichles hub unit. making the bering and sensor one sealed unit. cheap hub units can be gotten (under 100 bucks) at autozone

Abs light, trac light, service engine soon light 2001 Pontiac Grand Am

Sounds like you have a bad wheel speed sensor. You need to have it scanned. Since it's been sitting, it might just be a bad connection to one of the speed sensors.

Transmission shifts hard when the trac off light comes on

youll need to scan for transmission codes. the trac off light is a default of the trans going into a default safety mode. Bad speed sensors and simple little bolt on items like that can cause the condition but only way to really nail it is with a computer.

Lights that wont go away: Trac Off, ABS, Oil Change, Service Vehicle soon

Sorry tina , but you are going to need a new "cluster assembly" most likely. The cluster assembly is the dash instrument panel with all the gauges behind the clear lens. As an ex-pontiac technician of 13 years , pretty much every one of these with more than one light remaining on after start-up is going to need an "exchange" cluster. What the G.M. dealer does is removes the cluster from the car and "swaps" it with another one that has been refurbished-not always do they have a local authorized repair source though. I know the going exchange rate on these units is about $250.00. Hopefully they don't mark it up too much from there. I recommend you have it professionally checked out and diagnosed as you could also have an ABS code which could illuminate the trac off , abs light and check engine light simultaneously. Good luck..............Scott
