The 1991 Cadillac DeVille 4.9 engine incorporates a magnetic timing probe hole for use with special electronictiming equipment. Malfunction codes may be set during ignition timing adjustment procedure.Enter diagnostics and clear trouble codes if this occurs.#1 Place transmission in park .#2 With the ignition in the Off position attach a timing light to #1 spark plug cable .#3 With engine at normal operating temperature and air conditioning OFF,take off the air cleaner upper housing. The engine should be OFF at this point.#4 Jump pins A and B at the ( ALDL) connector.while not in diagnostic display.SET TIMING MODE message will apear on the climate control Driver Information center.#5 Start the engine and aim the timing light the timing mark loosen the distributor hold-down nut. While observing the timing mark, rotate distributor untill the line indicates the correct timing .This sets the base timing at 10 degrees BTDC at any speed under 800 RPM in the (PCM) The PCM controles the timing throughout the intire engine RPM range. This is the best imformation I can offer you good luck.

Do you know how to fix timing chain

Timing chains cannot be fixed, only replaced if too much slack from wear. You will have to pull off the timing chain cover to investigate. If it does need replacing, put the engine at top dead center (tdc) of the compression stroke of number one cylinder-that is zero degrees on the timing scale. before you begin removing anything.

Why would my 96' cadillac seville be overheating after i put a new radiator a new water pump a new thermostat and new fan motors in it

Someone would need to test the system and find out at what point the engine is overheating.
Is the thermostat not opening - is the coolant not flowing - or are the fans not coming on when the coolant reaches 220 degrees ?

I have a 1989 Cadillac Seville. I've had the car for 6 years. The other day my DIC told me "Engine Hot AC Compressor Off" In the entire 6 years of owning this vehicle the A/C has never worked,...

251 degrees is way too hot-so it's basics time, how long has it been since you have replaced the thermostat, or changed the antifreeze? At that temp, you could do major damage to the heads, head gasket and even the engine, so you really want to have the entire cooling system gone over-you coolant fan may be failing, or an engine control (like a relay for the cooling fans, even the engine computer)-it should be gone over sooner than later since overheating is the worst thing you can do to an engine.

The heater in a 1996 cadillac fleetwood does not blow hot air when engine is idling, it is just warm, when the weather is very cold, (below 25 degrees.) when it is not this cold it seems to work...

I am guessing you have not changed your thermostat from a summer one to a winter one. If this is the case you need to put a 195 degree thermostat in to replace the 165 degree summer one. Let me know. Thanks.

Timing mark for 98 cadillac deville trying to put the car back into timing after engine overhaul the engine size is 4.6 thanks

The timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket should be at the 12 O'clock position.....the timing mark on the intermediate sprocket should be at the 6 O'clock position...in other words, the two timing marks are aligned.
The drive pins on the 4 camshafts must be vertical or perpendicular to the cylinder head, ie 90 degrees to the cylinder head surface.

Changed thermostat three times, new radiator and head gasket rep.

Your fans will come on at around 225 degrees,so your temp range is perfectly normal.

As for overheating,Check for coolant flow at the Purge line, this is a common problem on the Northstar.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.

SETTING TIMING ON 2000 NORTHSTAR ENGINE

Setting the camshaft timing isnecessary whenever the camshaft drive system has been disturbed, meaning the relationship between any chain and sprocket has been lost.Correct timing exists when the crankshaft and intermediate shaftsprocket timing marks are in alignment and all 4 camshaft drive pinsare perpendicular (90 degrees) to the cylinder head surface.

degrees) to the cylinder head surface. 0900c152800a57af.jpg I hope this helps, if not let me know
