SOURCE: will not shift into overdrive.

Some possible causes for the A4LD transmission are:

1. Case connector and/or harness not seated.
2. 3-4 shift solenoid (3-4 solenoid wire pin 52 should read
approx 20 ohms)
3. Powertrain Control Module
4. Vacuum line disconnected from MAP sensor.
5. Map sensor
6. Throttle position sensor
7. Vehicle speed sensor

You may want to check to see if you have any codes as it will let you know if one of the sensors are at fault. Hope this helps, good luck.

SOURCE: 93 buick park avenue wont shift into overdrive

1993 Buick Park Avenue. The overdrive shifts in and out on flat ground. It holds o.k. when in a slight pull up grade.

SOURCE: My 88 F-150 AOD 4wd shifts hard into overdrive

Fairly normal.
It is a planetary gear system with a conic frustum shaped clutch. So it tends to grab fast and hard. That is good, because then it wears less.

SOURCE: 1985 150 ford aod transmission will not shift 3rd.

check your fluid level if its good find the rubber hose from transmission to carb or intake. make sure there is no kinks or cuts. if the rubber hose from the modulater valve on the transmission is not hooked up its not going to shift right hopefully its not your pump or stuck valves

On the 1993 Ford Mustang convertible lx gear console on the floor , is it the little d or the larger D that should be used for normal driving ?

One of them includes overdrive. I would say it's the big D. The other will not include the overdrive. Try shifting between these two at highway speed. Use the one that runs lower in revs, unless you are in the hills.

Mech or Elec overdrive

According to Haynes Auto Repair Manual, section on automatic transmissions, the 1994 Towncar has the AODE transmission
Baumann Electronic Controls website
URL: http://www.becontrols.com/tech/ch1alphabet.htm
has following:
The Automatic Overdrive (AOD) transmission was introduced in 1980 as Ford's first four-speed automatic overdrive transmission.
The AOD-E transmission is essentially a beefed-up electronically-controlled version of the AOD.
If this doesn't answer your question, you might troll around the website.

I may need to replace the automatic transmission out of my 1995 mustang GT convertable. I need the factory name or the specs of the tranny so I can look around and be sure I am getting the right...

YOU HAVE A AOD,NOT AN AODE. YOU'RE AOD HAS A MANUAL THROTTLE VALVE CABLE WITH MANUAL OVERDRIVE SELECTIVE BY LINKAGE. AODE HAS ELECTRONIC OVERDRIVE ACTIVATED BT A BUTTON AND MORE INTERNAL ELECTRONICS,THIS ONE WON'T WORK. TRY GETTING A REBUILD ON IT,MAY BE CHEAPER WITH A WARRANTY! GO SOME WHERE RELIABLE THOUGH LIKE DEALER.
