My Service Engine Soon light came on about a year ago. I took it into the shop and got that problem fixed but the light stayed on, so I took it to advance auto parts and code tested it and it said that the 02 sensor heater (Bank 1/Sensor 1) was malfunctioning. What would this cause and how do i fix it?

There are several types of O2 Sensor codes. There can be "Lean O2 Sensor" codes, "Rich O2 Sensor" codes, "O2 Sensor Slow Response" codes, or "O2sensor Heater Circuit" codes. The specific code that is being set changes the way you must go about diagnosing and repairing the problem. I will say however, that in about 80% of all the O2 Sensor code problems that I have had to diagnose, the O2 Sensor itself was NOT the problem. The O2 Sensor was only reporting a problem that was actually caused elsewhere. O2 Sensors are the final checkpoint in the engine management system. I think of them like a report card. If the O2 Sensors are right, the rest of the engine management system is right. If the O2 Sensors are not right, the rest of the engine management system is probably not right. (Except in the 20% of the cases where the problem is actually being caused by a failed O2 Sensor)

He is correct. Nobody should drive their car for a year with the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light on. It may seem to be running OK to you, but it is most likely harming some pretty expensive engine, exhaust and emissions components.

I get cars like this in my shop all the time. By the time the customer brings the car in it is either because the car won't run anymore or the vehicle is due for an emissions inspection and now it is full of codes and is going to cost big bucks to fix it.

You never got what caused the check light to come on,
fixed a year ago, maybe other issues

OBD2 System Emission lights,something everyone
should study,do not stay on. They are govt mandated,
so you will get on it in a few days. They don't come and
arrest you,but your vehicle should be diagnosed and repair,
then and now

If you have a bad O2 Sensor Heater, you could chance
replacing it.
Bank 1 ,right side, first sensor, closest to engine,in exhaust
converter.
Any other O2 codes need testing, never replacing without it.

I would get a real professional opinion or as I said,if a heater
goes,so does the sensor,a rare case where you could risk
the money and do yourself

Either the first O2 sensor is bad or the wiring to the O2 sensor is bad most likely the the bank 1 sensor is bad in most cases replacing that particular O2 fixes the issue.

Check engine light comes on because engine computer has detected a fault. It could be anything, from a cheap sensor to an important component out of specifications, to a service reminder. Most shops (not necessarily Honda dealers, ) have the diagnostic equipment to hook it up to your car and tell you what is wrong, before fixing anything. Usual rates for this diagnostic is below $100, including quote for repair.

Airbag light and service soon light

You need to take this to a shop and have the airbag system repaired as that light is indicating a fault in the airbag deployment system. The service Engine soon light could be nothing more that a reminder to change the oil but is most likely an Oxygen sensor that needs replaced.

Service engine soon & brake light stays on

the service engine light is prob due to the oxygen sensor being damaged, not replace or you having the catalytic converter taken off---just messing with you. start at auto zone and have then do a free code read then go from there. you should troubleshoot the low fluid level switch for your brake fluid. unplug it and see if the light goes off and if it doesn't jump the two terminals on the harness. oh the car will have to be running.
