My gf has a 2001 blazer with the 4.3 vortec. it is leaking antifreeze and i cannot find the leak, its not getting in the oil,and the floorboards are not wet. someone told me that it could be the intake gasket leaking and letting it burn through the motor. is there a way i can check this before changing the intake gasket?

Most likely the intake gasket is leaking. You can check under the ac compressor and back by the transmission bell housing these are where the intakes usually leak. If you have a uv light it will illuminate the antifreeze very brightly.

Mar 28, 2011 - There are so many ways to test for a blown head gasket on your 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L GM van (or mini-van, pick up, SUV) that it can get confusing.

This darn little engine just keeps going. ... I have a 2003 chevy blazer and the oil cooler line from the oil filter to ... I have a 95 Chevy s10 v6 vortec 2wd that is slightly dripping oil out of agasket ... I'm having same problem 2001 Chevy Blazer 4x4 (not xtreme) not sure if those same bolts are missing on mine.
Does it leak any antifreeze on the floorboard or anywhere? Common problem with the jeep cherokee that the heater or A/C will cause it to leak and had to replace the whole unit.
First check the two 3/4" hoses going into the firewall. if those are clean, it will be a blown head gasket. Are you getting a lot of white smoke and sweet-smelling exhaust? If so, you're leaking antifreeze into the cylinders too. Also check your oil for frothyness or greyish oil (using dipstick) - if that's true, antifreeze is in your oil. All of which are conditions of a blown head gasket - it just depends where the gasket failed.
IF it's only leaking on the outside of the engine, you can try a stop-leak coolant additive. These only work if you're only leaking on the outside - will not work if leaking in the oil or in the cylinders. And then they only work some of the time - I have had it work with perfect success in the one time I used it (was a copper color liquid). Sometimes that's better than putting in the money to replace the gasket...
Usually a smell of antifreeze in the cab when the heater is running is a sign the heater core is leaking. Just becasue you dont see a leak at this time doesn't mean there isn't one. It might small enough that the haet from the core is burning off the leaking antifreeze. I would suggest replacing the core before you get in one day and there is a puddle on your floorboard. Or if you go to a local parts store and rent a cooling system pressure tester, wait until the vehicle is cold, pressure the system to 12 lbs and then check for leaks. Hope this helps you out......
check for a wet tailpipe, which might indicate a leak between water jacket & combustion chamber.i.e.headgasket.check heater hose isn't leaking onto exhaust manifold,'cooking' the anti-freeze as it leaks.
if it has a back heater either a water line to the heater core broke or the heater core for te back heater sprung a leak probabley the heater core on the back heater replace either the hose or the back heater core whatever is leaking.
