You need to connect the battery. Lock and unlock the car with the remote. That will cause the ani-theft to stop flashing the lights. It does, however, stop after 3 minutes. That is, until you disturb the vehicle again. Then it starts the 3 minutes again. You need to get the remote out, and lock the doors and unlock the doors. Done.
Check to be sure that your hood light is turning off when you close the hood. Seriously. (Common problem.)
Remove the bulb from the hood light to see if the problem persists. If the battery no longer drains, replace the hood light assembly.
Also, run the car for a short while, then turn the car off. Leave the car off for an hour, then feel the back of the alternator. If it is hot, the diodes are bad in the alternator.
The charging system on your vehicle is computer controlled . Your vehicle is a rolling computer .The instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside , there is also a body computer ( SJB ) smart junction box , Engine computer etc... they all communicate on a serial data network , C.A.N - controller area network . It's hard to know what's wrong when you don't know how it works . There could be codes stored in the computers , these will not always turn on the check engine light . Your alternator is bad. When the car drove home fine it was running off the battery and not the alternator. Replace the alternator, and the belt too while you're at it.
Did you have the altenator replaced trying to correct this problem? Many times altenator probems will affect warning lights and gauges, at this point, most customers can't remember if the charge light was on because "all of the warning lights were on". Sometimes a faulty altenator can feed A/C current into the vehicles electrical system. I would be interested in the solution to this problem as soon as it is resolved...good luck.
the battery light is for the altenator. It is possible that it is going out. The light comes on when the altenator is not putting out enough voltage to power the car...ie you need 12volts and it's only putting out 11 volts. the car will eventually quit running, as soon as the battery is drained to about 5 or 6 volts. the altenator can be checked. she should get back home as soon as possible.
