TROUBLESHOOTING P0011
The pcm has determined that the voltage signal from camshaft "A" position sensor in bank 1 indicates inadequate perforemce or a timing over advanced condition. (Bank 1 identifies the location of cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank)

hopefully this helps a little

It is definatly a timeing problem but 1st check you pluged all wireing back in especially cam sensor & VVT solinoid if fitted. You may just need to reset the code & see if prob remains. I had a honda engine light come on after haveing VVT solinoid out & just had to reset comp & it was fine. If all looks good there you will need to recheck the cam timeing you could be a tooth out. Got a 99 Nissan Altima 2.4, t-chain broke... replaced head and all t-components... start up surging idle and whistling off idle... engine runs smooth and great power off idle

the surging and whistling sounds like there might be a vacuum leak that is causing this.recheck all vacuum lines and surfaces were this is a gasket that seals a vacuum source.smooth running and good power off idle suggest this leak only affects the motor at a low(idle)rpm.

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima 3.5L SE Engine that overheated while on a trip. The overheating affected some few components in the engine and they where replaced. However, the car refused to start.

Were the parts installed correctly? All wiring harnesses plugged back in? Did the Nissan quit running before parts were replaced? The overheating may have blown a head gasket.

I need to set the timing on my 2002 nissan altima

  • Tools needed: A timing light and wrenches.
  • Locate the crankshaft pulley at the front of the Altima's engine and clean it off to expose the timing marks. Start the car and turn off any accessories such as climate control, lights and the radio. Allow the engine to idle until it reaches normal operating temperature.
  • Turn off the engine and connect a tachometer to the distributor per the manufacturer's instructions. Connect the timing light to the battery and then to the number one ignition wire. Start the engine and verify it's idling at 1,000 RPM. Adjust the idle speed if necessary

  • Point the timing light at the crankshaft pulley to determine the amount of adjustment needed. Adjust the timing by loosening the distributor mounting bolts and turning the distributor until the crankshaft timing mark lines up with the middle line of the timing light.

  • Tighten the distributor mounting bolts and recheck the timing. Turn the Altima off and remove the tachometer and timing light. Reconnect the number one ignition wire.

My Nissan Altima 2002 would not start after a bout of overheating which resulted in the changing of the head gasket. my mechanic says the problem could be from the engine head. What do you think?

If your car runs well, then the head gasket must have been the problem for the no start condition. The head could have warped causing a leak which caused the overheat condition, which lead to a further damaged head gasket.

4 cyl. cars are known for this problem, but it happens to V-8's as well.

Watch those coolant levels in 4 cylinder cars, especially.
