1999 Saab 93 shifting problem. I have a 1999 Saab 93 with automatic transmission that rides perfect except for 1 problem. When I am driving and I need to accelerate and I use the kickdown, the car makes a banging noise. If I just drive normally, the car shifts perfectly. Any ideas?

SOURCE: My 1991 Saab 900 is shifting perfectly except it will not go into

I've had a similar problem, and it was the rubber bushings in the shifter link; as some particular ones age they get sloppy and 5th gear seems to be the one that suffers. Others will age and disintegrate, then you won't be able to shift at all. If all the other gears are fine (no grinding, judder, popping out of gear or other untoward behaviour) I'd look to these rubber bushings, and replace them all while you're at it. They're replaceable at much less cost than a tranny rebuild, and are most likely that cause, i.e. after rebuilding tranny, you still won't get into 5th because the shifter won't have been rebuilt, just the contents of the gear box!

Check the "Bentley Bible" aka the Saab 900 Official Service Manual, costs about $40 from Amazon, for info, it's an invaluable resource!

8 valve manual: http://www.amazon.com/Eight-Official-Service-Manual-1981-1988/dp/0837603102

Get the appropriate manual for your car and enjoy the Saab!

Find a local auto electrician. A professional grade scan tool computer can check for trouble codes and also check transmission solenoid operation.

My fiance has a 1999 BMW 528 I, it now requires that you manually shift it from 3rd to the normal driving gear almost 1/2 the time. It is an automatic, what causes that, where can the dip stick be found...

The automatic transmission in a 1999, Series 5 BMW, which is classified as Tiptronic (access to individual Drive positions 1 to 5 is offset toward the Operator, from the P,R,N,D positions), and the transmission is lubricated for its' life; therefore, a dip stick is not available. BMW does NOT recommend shifting the transmission fluid. However, it can be shifted by first draining the old fluid, and then refilling with the recommended fluid level to the fill hole, directly at the transmission itself.

The check gearbox light comes on when you shift to drive (automatic transmission). The acceleration is very slow unless you shift it to 1 or 2. Once you get going you can put in drive and it will...

You need a new neutral safety switch. The car does not know what gear it is in so it goes into safe mode and sets off in third gear. There about £150 new but i got one from the scrap yard for a fiver. There is a guide on one website that shows you how recondition the switch but can't remember which one.

The automatic transmission is stuck in 3 gear.

Definitely, there's a problem with your transmission. You are right, it is overheating. It is
caused by worn out part inside your transmission.
Have it checked by a qualified mechanic.

SAAB 2002 93 automatic gear stuck

you have to push your shift override button? Your cable that runs from your ignition/steering column to your shift knob could be worn and therefore loose not allowing the car the be shifted out of park (as if your key weren't in the ignition). Hope this helps
