my tdi stop / stalls and acts like it's not getting any fuel. Replaced the filter and problem is the same and is getting more frequent. Wait about 10 minutes and cars will start but initially need to rev engine to keep running.

It is on the passenger side right behind the washer fluid fill tube. You can follow the fuel lines (look like 1/4" black tubes, some are clear) from the injector pump to it. It is a caniser a bit bigger than a normal looking oil filter and sits between the washer bottle and the metal that forms the wheel well. It is held in by a screw type clamp about half way down the cylinder. Probably isn't the fuel filter unless there is air in the lines to the injector pump or they didn't bother to fill the fuel filter up with diesel after putting it in. There is not a fuel pump in the tank in these cars so everything is sucked up by the injector pump and it needs to be primed properly.

bhoiska : Your problem may be that the fuel pump is losing prime. Make sure all you fuel lines are tight up to the injector pump and that the fittings on the fuel filter have the proper o-rings. I can't remember what you call it but the thing that is held into the fuel filter with a clip has two o-rings on the part that get inserted.

What is the best way to deal with 2 gallons of gas in 2003 TDI? I can't get a hose in deep enough to siphon it. Am thinking about removing line to fuel pump.

FOR TDI ENGINES WHICH IS TURBO DIESEL INJECTION. THE FUEL SYSTEM CONSISTS OF FUEL INJECTION PUMP WHICH DRAW FUEL FROM FUEL TANK THROUGH A FUEL FILTER NO OTHER FUEL PUMP IS USED. YOUR FUEL INJECTION PUMP HAS A ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP BUILT INSIDE INJECTION PUMP ITSELF YOU DONT HAVE TO DROP FUEL TANK.FUEL PUMP IS UNDER THE HOOD.YOUR FUEL INJECTION PUMP IS THE FUEL SUPPLY PUMP.

Blue smoke coming from exhaust.Think turbo is bad on my 2003 vw jetta 1.8 T

The bearings and seals in the turbo are going bad, so oil is getting burned with the fuel.

How do you know if the fuel pump needs to be replaced on a 2002 VW Jetta TDI. There is very little fuel in the filter and the car will not start.

Best thing to do is a fuel pressure test, the car does not have to be running to do the test just turn on the key. You can rent the pressure tester at auto zone.
