What kind of antifreeze does a 2006 Dodge Stratus take?

By a gallon of Zerez G05,mix with a gallon of distilled water to make 2 gallons and that will fill it up,get it from Oreilly's or Advance,Autozone doesn't carry it,don't get the 50-50 mixture,will cost you more.

What's happening to it? Is it breaking? Is the gasket failing?

One thing that can eat gaskets in a hurry (UNBELIEVEABLY fast) is mixing two different kinds of antifreeze together. These days there are five different kinds of antifreeze, and they're not compatible with each other, and if you mix the wrong two together, they turn acidic and eat gaskets. I had one vehicle here that... I had to replace water pump gaskets every day for three days until I figured out that the antifreeze was two different types mixed together. I flushed & refilled with ONE type of antifreeze, and the problem went away entirely.

But... what's happening that YOU are replacing the water outlet?

I had the same problem, it seems as if the anitifreeze is boiling, right?
I had to change the thermostat.

you can use any antifreeze you choose the name brands are a bit more expensive but last longer and give you a better protection

USE WHAT THE FACTORY CALLS FOR.MOST CAR NOW USES DEXCOOL ANTIFREEZE.BUT USE WHAT THE OWNERS MANUAL TELLS YOU.

Use a good brand of synthetic 10w-30 for probably treble the mileage between changes. Otherwise use a good brand of petroleum based 10w-30 oil at 3000-4000 mile intervals. Hope this helps!

Berk-Arnley or magnafilter oil filter is best for the Dodge Stratus. It's cheap and reliable too. This one is available on car parts retail sites or on ebay.

Any standard antifreeze coolant will work. If you live in the lower Midwest USA as I do, you can actually mix regular antifreeze 50/50 with water and you run no risk of it freezing. Detailed mixing instructions should be available on most antifreeze containers.
