My drivers side back door will not open. It was frozen I thought, it wouldn't open from the outside but opened from the inside so I messed with the child safety locks and now the door will not open at all, although the window works fine...any suggestions with out having to take the door panel off. When I use the auto lock switch I can here the locks but nothing opens

SOURCE: !993 subaru legacy doors dont unlock

If it takes that much force to manually open the doors, and it's on the doors that are less used, then I'd bet it's a set of door locks and actuators in need of lubrication.
Electric door lock actuators can easily be stopped or slowed down by resistance in the mechanism. This can be caused by corrosion, water getting into the door, and just old age and lack of use. I'd take the door panels off and take a peek.
On the Legacy the panels pop off fairly easily. You'll need to pry them off carefully with a flat screwdriver. You'll feel where the fasteners are, where the panels are resisting coming off, and prise the panel gently and firmly at these points and they'll pop out. Once out you'll see the lock mechanism.
Moving it by hand will tell if it's corroded or bound up. Apply some white litium grease to the mechanism, making sure to squirt/work it in, and then work the door handle/mechanism to get the lube into the linkage and actuators. Check the electrical contacts for corrosion while there and spray with WD-40 to protect them. This should free up the door mechanism and the actuators should then be able to do their job.
If after the above steps the electric actuators still don't work, use a voltmeter or circuit tester to check for 12V at the actuator when the door button is pressed. If you don't see any power, recheck that fuse and then the wiring back to the door harness. It's unlikely that this is the cause as its unlikely that you'd get only 3 out of 4 bad, but you never know in these old cars.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Subaru Outback 2005 - Driver side door/window

The switches in Subarus are made by Nissan believe it or not. They are not interchangeable. Anyway, I suspect you have a bad window switch. You can pickup the whole bank of swiches or replace just the one. Do a search on ebay for your part.
Has this car had body damage on the driver's door? You could have a cut wire inside the door.

SOURCE: Passenger Door won't open from inside - not child safety lock

as leegallacher said its more than likely the interior door cable stretched or ends worn.

Testimonial: "That was the problem."

My 2009 altima s driver's side door wont open from inside or outside thought door was frozen shut so pulled handle hard to try and open now cant open door

You will need to take inside door panel loose which is a little hard with door shut but it can be done and probably replace door Handel if the Handel it's self is not broke it's most likely just a little plastic clip that holds the rod to the lock

Then buy the required parts at a dealer or salvage yard

The outside drivers side door handle on my 96 bravada is about to pull away from the door how do i fix this?

Open your door. on the latch side of your door near the top by the back of the window you will see a rubber plug about the size of a nickel remove it and the handle bolt is inside the holethe other bolt you will have to remove inside door trim panel. if they are both ok you will have to perchase a new handle.

2006 buick lucerne back doors won't open

My friend just had this problem and he reached in and pulled the inside door handle back as far as it would go, and then let it go, allowing it to 'snap' back. For some reason this fixed it. We have no idea why. By doing this on one door, both rear door locks freed up and the rear locks are now working. Before, both rear locks were stuck and you could not open the doors from the inside nor the outside. Not sure why it works, but maybe it will work for you!

I have a '93 Buick Regal Custom. Last year I was unable to open the passengers door from the outside, I can open from the inside but not outside. I lived with it until now. The drivers door is doing the...

I have this problem every year with my car, 1993 buick regal custom, 3.8. What happens is it gets cold, warms up a bit, and ice or snow melts and gets in the door, then it gets cold again and it freezes. I go to unlock and open the door from the outside and this problem arises.

There is a vertical rod on the left side of the drivers side, right side of the passenger side, that gets bent, from trying to open the door when that mechanism is frozen up. Just bend it back, a TINY bit and it will start working.

I got tired of taking my door apart every time it happened so i cut a little "door" in the cover thing, so i can get at that bar.

I also tried coating it in grease and that seems to lessen the frequency.

Door doesnt open

Now when you say frozen locked is it when you open it from the inside you want to get out because if its that I believe there should be a small switch button on the door near the catch latch (only if you can open this door from outside handel) for a child safety lock switch flick it the other way (only 2 way this switch works lock and open) and it should open from inside (if it wont open from inside and outside then the door handel trigger is either come off the only way check it is open the door cover and look if anythng has come off) hope it give some help
