The check prosidure requires you engine be cold engine at top dead center at #1 cylinder and cams timing markes aligned to markes. check only intake and exaust lifters with lobes in the released position. intake is .15-.25mm and exaust is .25-.35 mm. rotate the engine 180deg. to check the remaining cylinders. if exsesive play is exsperianced. You must remove cam shafts, and add a new shim to remove the clearence. this includes the timing chain.most engine machine shops have these shims.really suggest you go online for a sevice manule. you can ruin this engine if not performed properly. This is a zero clearence engine! (no clearence between valves and pistons.) any more questions i can help you with just send to my e mail.

I read somewhere that it should be 0.2mm, set when hot. But use that as a guideline only, I am not 100% sure.

What is the tappets clearance for an 2000 Toyota tazz 1.3 2E engine.

This will depend on whether that engine uses mechanical or hydraulic tappets. I think that model and year still used the mechanical type. Mechanical ones need a gap, hydraulic ones don't. If yours is the 2e engine, (most versions were), the clearance gap will be 5.965-5.980 mm (0.2348-0.2354 in.)

Hi,my Toyota tazz 1,3manual trasmission leaks oil spark plugs,I had the valve stem seals replaced twice but still it's leaking

Is the breather pipe from the tappet cover to intake also oily wet inside? If so, there might be combustion blow-by past the pistons, caused by worn pistons and/or rings.
