The engine started clacking and then went off. I ran down the batttery attempting to restart it. I tried to jump it and there nothing. I then noticed the codes come up p0118, p0455,and p0442. I knew about the evap leak but I wonder why I cannot start it and why the clacking. Is it possible its thrown a rod? The car is an 02 dodge stratus.

• Check Engine Light will illuminate
  
• In many cases, no abnormal symptoms may be noticed
• In some cases, the engine may be hard starting and/or get poor fuel economy

• Defective Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
• Rusty and/or corroded Engine Coolant
• Faulty or corroded Engine Coolant Temperature wiring or connections

• Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor is replaced when the real cause is rusty coolant
  
• Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor is replaced when the real cause is a poor connection or chafed wiring
• Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor is replaced when the real problem is in the Cooling System

Maybe a broken timing belt? Engine still turning, but cam shaft stopped turning. Pistons hitting the open valves?
