2006 Beetle with 15,000 miles. Noticed some kind of grinding sound (gets louder as speed increase) comeing from front. Checked the breaks and other parts near breaks but no sign of wear or damage. Tire looks good and replaced/rotated 2 front tires. Still making noise that sounds like road noise but louder and you can hear from 40mph and louder as car goes faster. Car drives normal in Drive, or Sports mode. While going in 60mph shifed to neutral but noise is still there unchanged. What can this be?

Remove the front wheel and check the wheel bearing, sometimes you may have to may have to put a bar under the wheel and try to lift it up hard, this will give you an indication on where any movement is. THERE IS A PROBLEM and you need to find it
this sounds like(no pun intended) you have a wheel hub bearing assembly failing. they will start a whirring or humming noise and then a growling or grinding noise the worse they get. from your description it is a rotational noise and gets louder and maybe a higher pitch as the vehicle speed increases. have this checked out right away so no further damage is done. they are not cheap assemblies as most GM and Saturn vehicles have the ABS sensor built into them(if your Vue has ABS).
from my experience its sounds like ur front rotors may need resurfaceing...if ur doing that...may as well replace the brakes on the front as well...sometimes glazed front brake pads may make a sound but never heard of it as a grind, usually its a squeal...have ur dealer check ur rotors for hot spots in which u would need them replaced if they are overheated..also check the front pads for cracked brake pad material
Sounds like you have a bad wheel bearing. This is common in Subarus. It actually gets louder with the speed of the car and can go bad in the front driver/passenger sides or both rear sides. A wheelbearing can cost around 69.00 at an auto store, just specify if its front or rear and see if you can find a good friend/mechanic to replace it for you. My brother has done all of mine in all my subarus, very familiar with the sound you describe, its like an airplane taking off.
Good Luck.
