Where is the transmission control module (TCM) on a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport

  • Anonymous Nov 28, 2010

This is more than we have found anywhere else. Thanks.

  • Anonymous Jul 25, 2012

This answer is incorrect. All Jeep Cherokee XJ with the AW-4 automatic transmission have a Transmission Control Unit (TCU). 1997-2001 is mounted under the dashbaord near your right knee.

Hi.

This vehicle does not have a Transmission Control Module.
Transmission control is accomplished through the Engine Control Module or Powertrain Control Module.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is located in the right-rear side of the engine compartment.

Where is the transmission control module (TCM) on - jshreader_1.jpg

I hope this helps you.

Thanks!

They moved the TCM into the ECU and then the name became, PCM. "power train from engine control"
but it is still there, still works, but software (firm) moved to the inside of the PCM.
first scan the PCM , best time to scan is driving
if the transmission acts up driving, (unsaid by you)
but in 1999 some still have a TCM. the 4.7L has it. but no the 4.0L
so............... next time post what you have?

WJ 99 jeep
see wiring here.
see trans
but your post never said what engine or transmission options you have.

so look here for your self (8w-31-9 ) is pretty clear....

OD Pressure Switch harness is open or shorted

- OD Pressure Switch circuit poor electrical connection

- Faulty OD Pressure Switch

- Internal transmission damage

- Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

I have grand cherokee 2001 limited the code p0700 is apper the gear is started scend shift espically in morinig

possible causes
Shorted or open circuit within Transmission Control Module (TCM)
- Faulty Transmission Control Module (TCM)
symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Driveability problems
- Transmission shifting problems
p0700 description
The transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. When the TCM detects a malfunction with the control, a signal is send to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to trigger the Engine Light or Service Engine Soon light. The ECM stores the P0700 code and it means the TCM detected a malfunction with the transaxle controls.

Automatic trans will not shift from 1st to 2nd on 1999 Jeep Grand cherokee

Hello
The Engine and Automatic Transmission (not applicable to manual transmissions) in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Also always check fuel pressure for correct spec for your make and engine type.

Engine light on with code P0725

P0725 JEEP Description The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the engine speed through the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor with the engine running, and send signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
The code is set when the TCM does not get an engine speed signal from the ECM.
Could be a problem with either computer, the link between the two, or the crank sensor.

What does it means to flash a transmission.my transmission is shifting from first to second to fastcould that be what i need

Flashing the trans is reprogramming the Transmission control module. The TCM controls when the transmission shift according to road speed, throttle input and engine load.

P0700 code?

P0700 is a code that tells u the TCM [transmission Control Module] has requested that the PCM [Powertrain Control Module] turn on the check engine light, u now need to ge the TCM tested for the transmission fault code(s) that were stored when the check engine light was turned on by the TCM through and by the PCM

P1698 code

Sir,
check this link for ur problem
Under the hood on the driverside of the cherokee is the PCM or Powertrain Control Module. The Transmission Control Module or TCM is under the dash on the driverside. It's actually kinda of small, I would guess 4 inches by 3 inches. with what look like wings coming off the sides and two bolts.
