Tough to tell without being there but it may be your timing chain slipping or broken. At that age of vehicle (how many miles) if the timing chain has not been replaced - that would be my suspect.

97 Oldsmobile 88 after driving once motor is shut off will not crank until cool, had the control module tested it came back good, replace fuel pressure switch and still will not crank until cool?

You will need to replace the crank angle/position sensor near the crank pulley. A photo of the sensor is attached. The sensors wear out due to heat and cold cycles and internal corrosion.

Vehicle starts, drives about a mile and shuts down. Restarts after setting for several hours.

What is year--make--model? If computer controlled, did you check for applicable codes? If your obd2 some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free.

When the problem is ongoing, if it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it, while you visually check for spark at the spark plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure and fuel injector pulse.

I have a ford falcon 2002 xr6 ute with vct tickford motorist just stoped while driving gave a miss fire I have replaced crank sensor module coil fuel pump fuel filter still wont run running very ruf

On my falcon the same thing happened changed dizzy, coil even got new spark plugs what it turned out to be was auxiliary shaft that turns the dizzy or the dizzy module if you got coil packs. You can't see down the dizzy hole because its under the inlet manifold so take photo with your phone and you might see little bits of metal The auxiliary shaft teeth on the dizzy end where worn out and folding over so it can't give the proper spark at right time so went to wreckers 20 bucks for another. ford says it can't happen but I know quite a few engines with same problem

88 chevy 2.5l, gets fuel will not start

An engine shut not backfire unless the timing is off, it has a burnt valve or an exhaust restriction. Since the crank sensor was the catalyst for the problem, I would again check it. It definately affects the timing for the fuel and spark

I have a '96 mk1 cti, replaced the coil and module and the car still doesn't spark, the module gets warm when cranking so i also cleaned the ground wires, what else should i check?

Try your CRANK SHAFT SENSOR or CAM SHAFT SENSOR.

If there is no Reference ZERO signal, then the car will not spark or SPARK ONCE and then nothing.

Put a Timing Light on the Car and then turn it over, if you get a single light, then it is one of those 2 sensors (Probably the CRANKSHAFT)

My 1999 Chevy Lumina shuts down while driving and will not start immediately. It may start after a while but will shut down again. When parked, it starts and idles for a while and may or may not shut, but...

it sounds like your ignition module is failing, when the car dies, take off one spark plug wire from the coil and crank the key, see if there is spark. one other issue may be the crank position sensor which can also stop the module from firing a spark

87 pontiac 6000 stalls out and wont restart for a period of time. I was told to replace the crank shaft sensor. But I have repaced the fuel pump and fuel filters plus I replaced 2 other sensors on it and...

is the check engine light on !! if so scan it for the problem code to find out what area to start at. but it does sound like a bad crank sensor. here are the symtoms of a bad crank sensor,--- shuts off while driving down road and wont start for at least 10 minutes and also. timing will be out of sync. more than likely engine will not start. ( engine backfire )or irregular RPMS. if vehicle starts at all, it controls timing and sends info to pcm. no spark or pulse at injectors. have a good day !!
