What does it mean when your battery light comes on?

its best to include a year make and model but it could be a fuel sending unit, bad battery, battery going bad, or something like a bad connection somewhere. also, it would be a good idea to scan for codes at a reputable shop. i will be able to give you more specifics from there.. in the mean time. disconnect both battery cables and charge up your battery. then re install, make sure connections are tight and try to start. let me know what happens.

Usually the battery light means the alternator is not charging the battery. The ABS light means there is a problem with the ABS brake system which may include the normal hydraulic brake system.
On import cars the warning lights can be connected even if only one system is having an issue.

Usually means check the battery for low charging...could be dirty connection posts...also can mean alternator is not 100% These are free checks at your local auto store...Hope this helps.

Maybe, but probably not. Generally, when the battery light comes on that is an indication that your alternator is not charging your battery. Have the alternator and battery tested to find the cause.

The warning light is supposed to mean the battery is not being charged.

It can mean 2 things, different cars have different lights, if it was a ford, and the battery light came on, it would mean it was charging. If your bmw light comes on, it could mean it is low,, needs charging,, or is charging. I would check the battery cond before I went any farther. Check the voltage at park, nothing on, not running, then fire it up and check the voltage again. Check the water level in the battery, then check the electrolytic fluid in the battery with one of those floaty ball things. they work great. My wife's battery just died, no warning, went down to 5 volts, worked fine in the morning, 4:00, it was deader than a doughnut. Check it out.

not necessary. it could also mean that your alternator is not producing enough voltage to charge it. If you take it to autozone they will test your output voltage from the alternator for free. they will be able to determine if its a bad battery or not

check battery connections,bench test starter,check starter wires,check battery negative ground....be more specific in defining your problem..what do you mean engine light comes on??? test battery voltage....
