I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L Straight 6. If you put it in park, the transmission will stall the engine, it acts like it is still in gear and stalls. If you put it in nuetral, it is fine. When stopping, you have to hurry and put it in neutral so it won't stall. Do you know what the problem could be?

SOURCE: Replacing Neutral Switch on 89 Jeep Cherokee

You can find switch on right side of the transmission, opposite where the linkage goes in on the drivers side The harness connector is near the dipstic fill tube top. They are usually stuck on the shaft so you will need lots of wd40 a little gentle prying and some patience to remove it. You can replace with one from a scrapyard or get a new one (about $200 new) You can take them apart and clean contacts, but be very careful not to loose or mix up internal contacts (they will fall out if you are not careful) When re-installing I usually adjust start positon in neutral ,partially lock switch down and re - check reverse & park positions, then fully tighten. It's plastic so don't "animal" on it tightening...use lock tab to keep from backing off.

SOURCE: need to replace timing chain for a straight 6 engine

I suggest the public library. I have found it to be a great resource. Haynes published a manual for 1993 to 1998 "all models" # 50025 or search at the library for ISBN # 1 56392 315 7

SOURCE: power windows won t work

I alsao own a 95 grand cherokee.
Certain windows would stop working when the drivers side door closed. I removed the rubber boot in between the door hinges that shields the wiring harness and found several wires in a condition of broken and/or shorting.

I will say these shorts also caused the battery to drain on several occasions when the car sat overnight.

It is easier to re-attach and work with these wires if you remove the harness plug from the door. There is an allen screw located in the middle of the plug...sorry I dont remember the size....

Hope this helps

How does one add transmission fluid to 1995 jeep grand cherokee laredo?

Look for the dipstick where you check the transmision fluid level. If you need any you pour it down the dipstick hole. Add it in small amounts and check in between additions, its really easy to overfill. Once overfilled a real pain to get it out.

1993 jeep grand cherokee laredo, straight 6 engine. rolls back at times when in park with ebrake on.. bought it used. has a SEVERE case of bouncing speedometer. It would appear the previous owner removed...

Whether you have a drive shaft on or not the roll back is the ebrake not properly working like it should it will need a adjustment, and as for the bouncing speedometer you will need to inspect the cable as they can wear out.
