Replace the complete distributor. They are available on Ebay, brand new for a bout $100. or at any auto parts store for a little more. It sounds like the module inside the distributor popped but it could be one of the pick-ups, or maybe the coil as well. Rather than wasting a lot of time and money trying to figure out which one, just get a complete new distributor. It comes complete with a new cap, rotor, module, coil, pick-ups.
These are a very, very common problem.

Are you sure you have correct timing? its definetly a fule problem, if timing is good then turn your key to the on position and try to listin for the fule pump to prime. While the key is in on position go to fuel rail, there is a valve on fule rail called sharader valve. Get a small screw driver and press valve in to check if car has fule pressure. if pressure is present then it is incorrect timing or possible bad cam sensor.

8 years is a fairly long time for a belt so I wouldn't take chances with it.
You need to establish whether you have fuel and spark; removing a fuel line under the hood will check the first and the second you can check by removing any spark plug lead, sticking a screw driver into the the removed lead and placing it and inch or so from some grounded point of the engine.
Each of these may require you turn on the ignition for some seconds and to check for spark, you will need an observer or someone to crank the engine.
You should have a fat blue spark from the screwdriver shaft to whatever ground you are using.
Once you have established that both are present, then it is time to consider the crankshaft position sensor or if no spark, the coil pack.
If you have a friend 'in the business,' they will likely own a code reader/scanner which will give you some idea of what is missing.
