Check the motor on the top of the heater plenum. It turns a shaft to shift the blender door which controls the input to this plenum either the heater core or the evaporator core (ac). You may find the motor is OK but the shaft (plastic) has broken and the blender door has to be replaced. This is a costly job that involves removing this plenum after removing the dash. A shortcut I found online was to cut a hole under the blender door and replace it through this opening. After replacing you can seal up the hole with epoxy. I cut three sides of a square hole leaving the back uncut. Pull down and the blender door can be removed. My problem was on a 1997 Explorer. heater hot/cold control knob doesn't - _6.gif

also check an in-line valve located under the alternator, which is vacuum controlled for movement open/shut. this valve controls hot water to the heater core in turn if valve does not allow flow(closed position) you will not recieve heat.

SOURCE: the heater does not blow hot air just cold air all

The first thing to check is the coolant (antifreeze) level in your radiator. If this level is too low it could cause your heater not to blow hot air. Check this when the engine is cold by removing the radiator cap. Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. If you do, you run the risk of getting scalded by hot water and steam that can shoot out the top of the radiator. The radiator should be completely full. If it's not, fill it up with a 50/50 solution of antifreeze and water. Also make sure the radiator overflow tank is filled up to the full mark. This is usually about halfway up the tank.
If your coolant level is ok I suspect you may need to replace the thermostat. It may be sticking shut and not letting hot water get to your heater core, or it may be sticking open and preventing your engine from reaching its normal hot operating temperature. A thermostat is relatively inexpensive and usually easy to replace. Just make sure you follow the instructions and put it in facing the right direction. If the thermostat is ok then you may have a blockage in your heater core. Replacing a heater core can be a difficult job on some car. If this is your problem I recommend taking the car into a garage to have the repair done. I hope this helps you out.

SOURCE: 1997 ford e250 van. heat only no cool air.

One of your deflector door servos or the door itself, is hanging up. To determine this more clearly, run your vehicle for about two minutes and shut down the engine. Move your function selector knob from defrost to floor to panel and listen carefully for a sweeeping sound. if you do not hear this sound you've got to check under the dash for a loose vacuum line or under the hood for a loose or broken line to the vacuum accumulator. The vacuum accumulator is a large black ball on the firewall with only two lines connected to it. One line is about3/32nds of an inch and the other will be about one quarter inch. Check these lines well, for they control ALL the functions within yout climate control. Best of luck my friend, Dana

SOURCE: Hi the heater on my Ford KA is only blowing out

Sounds like whoever did the repair work did not install the solenoid correctly or did not reassemble everything properly. If you had heat prior to the repair, the heater control panel must have been working. The mechanic must make a better diagnosis than this.

Heater blowing cold air

There are only 2 reasons for a problem like yours. Either the water is not going through the heater core or the ductwork under the dash has a problem. For checking the water flow, warm the truck up and then feel both water hoses connected to the heater core. They should both be hot if the water is flowing. If they are both as warm, then the problem is inside the cabin under the dash. If they are not equally warm, there is a problem with water flow.

Tip- For a time the manual heat control models(Not electronic) used a heater knob which could break on the backside of the knob. When it does this, the heater control shaft will not turn as the knob is just spinning in place. Gently pry the knob off and then twist the control shaft to see if it will now work.

The heater control knob will not turn all the way to either hot (right) or cold (left) so therefore I only get medium warm or medium cold. I assume the knob moves a cable but I cannot see it or remove the...

Cable is probably kinked or slipped adjustment. There are 2 cables connected to the knob. One move the blend door in the heater box to make the air flow thru the heater core, and the other cable opens a valve in the heater hose (engine compartment) to let the hot engine water into the heater core. Check both cables for kinks and fix and kinks. It is still doesn't work, first disconnect both cables at the blend door and valve and check the door and the valve for proper operation (can you open and close them by hand?--if not, these must be repaired or replaced), then, if good, adjust the cables according to this procedure from autozone.com:

CONTROL CABLE Adjustment

  1. Under the hood, open the clamp and disconnect the heater control valve cable from the arm.
  2. Under the dash, detach the air mix control cable from the clamp. Pull the cable from the control arm.
  3. Position the temperature control at MAX COOL.
  4. Turn the air mix control arm counterclockwise until it stops.
  5. Attach the air mix control cable to the arm.
  6. Snap the air mix cable hook into the cable clamp.
  7. Under the hood, turn the control valve to the fully closed position.
  8. Install the heater valve cable to the arm.
  9. Gently pull on the cable housing to remove any slack.
  10. Insert the cable into the clamp.

2002 Nissan Altima - Heat doesn't get hot and doors get stuck

Did the switch break because it was stuck? If so, then yes, they will have to change actuators and doors. Does the fan work on all speed setting? If so then you do not need a blower resistor. The resistor pack only controls the current flow to change speeds of the fan.
