1992 previa is hard to start only when cold. It tries to start and will eventually start after repeated efforts for 5 minutes. After starting, it will run very rough for about 30-45 seconds then smooths out and starts OK during the day any time the engine is warm. I replaced plugs, dist cap, rotor, spark plug wires, cold start injector valve, cold start injector switch, fuel filter. Still have problem. How to fix.

Try to change the coolant temp sensor.

  • toylander1 Apr 14, 2011

For someone looking to fix their vehicular problems, why does everyone want to try changing parts. You dont just change parts and continue......Check the resistance on the temp sensor and ambient temp. compare it to the values required. (get that from any book or call the dealer or aftermarket shop. Then you just saved the money on changing an original Toyota part with most likely an Aftermarket junk part and required antifreez loss. While checking... see if you get fuel pressure from a 1-2 sec. prime pressure from pump when key is turned on...

Why is mybcm not letting me pass insp there is no code on thi1996 chry lhs what is going on

You mean PCM most states read the readiness monitors depending on the state on how many they allow not to be completed. The first one on the list that is hard to get run and pass is the EVAP Because this requires the car to be cold and fuel tank must between 15%-85% and both air temp and coolant temp with in 10 degrees of each other. Start car let idle for 5 -10 minutes Then drive car normally no hard accelerations or quick stops bring speed to 50-60 mph and coast down to 20-15 mph without brake pedal input repeat this twice. Then bring speed to 58-62 mph and set cruise control run for 12-16 miles exit freeway caught a red light or stop and idle 2 minutes shut car off rest for 5 minutes and repeat freeway drive. then redo morning cold start again . then have some one test the generic readiness monitors to what needs to run and attempt again. California before 2000 1 can be incomplete after 2000 all have to be completed which is hard some will not run for 800 miles.

1997 Plymouth Breeze

Most probably ur crank position sensor or the pick-up coil is defective (or nearly). What that does is the computer knows where the No.1 cylinder is so that he knows when to send the spark to the correct spark plug. Now ur computer doesn't seem to know where the No.1 cylinder is, so he fires at random. Eventually the spark lands at the right place at the right time, hence ur engine is long to start.
That is my best guess.

My Toyota Previa will not start when cold

Check air mass flow assembly just close to air filter box (it looks aluminium casting).
