I have a 1995 Mercedes Benz C220, and when I turn the car on and select drive or reverse. The engine will shut off and there is nothing flashing or blinking on the dash. I suspect that the car cannot maintain enough RPM to receive the load of changing a gear. However I do not know what kind of sensor has stopped working. Thanks,

Your previous answer about the torque converter is a very good possibility. But the Mercedes is renowned for vacuum leaks. Everything is run with vacuum. I would check for a vacuum leak. Look for broken or cracked vacuum lines, both on the engine and under the dash.

The torque converter clutch lockup may not be disengaging. It is most likely to need a new torque converter. Possibly the torque converter clutch solenoid. For fuel economy there is a computer controlled lockup around 30 mph that is supposed to unlock when slowing to a stop. The feeling is similar to forgetting to depress the clutch on a manual when coming to a stop or trying to start in third gear. If you rev the engine, foot off brake and put in gear and quickly start moving it will be like popping the clutch or riding a bronco until you get up to speed. It will buck and stall again when you slow down. Not something to try unless you have a clear path ahead or you will crash.

Good point randyman5. It could be an idle control problem. If you give it gas while putting in gear can you keep it running without moving? If so, a vacuum leak or Idle control.

for the 220cdi,it is a 611.961 motor, you have to refill 6.5 liter, included the olilfilter.Whenyou have refill, and after the motor has running, you can check the oil-level in the board-computer.

SOURCE: how to reset airbag for mercedes benz c220 1994

This can not be reset by conventional methods. This must be done through a scan tool. Usually only the dealer scan tool will communicate with the SRS module. If the SRS light is on you have other issues and they must be remedied before the light will go out. There is no way of knowing what the issue is without running codes with the scan tool.

1994 mercedes benz c220: no crank, no turn, no start, no nothing

Battery should be in the trunk, under the mat next to spare tire on the right side. The starter is in the engine compartment on the underside near the firewall (very close to the accelerator pedal, think: if you could put your foot through the floor with the accelerator while sitting in the driver's seat, you would end up kicking the starter). Not fun to get at from under the car! (which is the only way to get to it :(
