Dead batteries can cause all kinds of goofy things to happen. Computer systems do not like it much when they get starved for power and can set all kinds of codes that may make the the thing operate in reduced power mode. This simply means that the computer is limiting engine RPM because of some problem that it "thinks" it has. Again, low power makes computers delirious....they can think all kinds of false things. The fix would be to make sure your battery and charging system is in good operating condition. (Did the battery go dead for obvious reasons like lights left on? or is it worn out and needs to be replaced?) Once the battery and charging system has received a clean bill of health, you may need to reset all of your computer memories - you may have to reset ALL modules. i.e.airbag, body control, antilock brake, air suspension, etc.

Look for a battery which has at least 800 cold cranking amps. Wherever you buy the battery will have a catalog to ensure the new battery fits your car. Connect your old battery with another battery from another car (WHILE KEEPING ALL CABLES CONNECTED ON BOTH CARS) just user a bridge cable otherwise you'll need. a code to reactivate your BMW again. Try now to start your BMW engine. Now go to the nearest battery dealer to change the battery WHILE KEEPING YOUR ENGINE ON, otherwise you'll need a code to activate your BMW again :)
