My 2001 GMC Yukon 5.3l 4WD SUV is having (2) transmission problems. 1.) When cold, it shifts HARD from 1st into 2nd but after the 1st time while the engine is warm, it shifts smoothly. It started doing this AFTER I had used it to pull a moving trailer for several trips in my small town. 2.) While driving on the highway, the engine RPM will run 2800 RPM - 3200 RPM when it used to run i@ 1000 RPM while driving 65-70 MPH. The transmission seems sluggish since I pulled that trailer last year for a move here in town. Any suggestion to source of the problem?

Does the trany fluid smell burnt? Might want to have the trany flushed - torque converter too - and replace the filter in the trans. FYI you may know this but it is not recomended that overdrive be enabled when pulling a trailer - especially a heavily loaded one. Does your town have lots of hills - this is an added stain on the trany.

It winds up in 1st and then shifts right from 1st into 3rd. Then never shifts into 4th. Plus rev is gone. You broke the sun shell. The transmission will need to rebuilt or replaced.

When my 2001 GMC Yukon tries to shift into 3rd gear or overdrive - it is like it goes into nutral. It never shifts to 3rd. 1st and 2nd gears does just fine.

this sounds like the pressure valve is going bad on third gear. cheap fix try Lucus transmission additive to increase the pressure.
To do it right go to a good transmission shop an have it serviced and flushed.

95 yukon won't shift into first gear.

I don't think its plug wires. When you say it won't shift into 1st? It takes off in 2nd? Does it shift to 3rd and 4th? Or is it a shifter problem? Like it won't go into manual 1st

My 1996 GMC Yukon 4x4 transmission will only drive in 1st and 2nd

It will take off from a stop in overdrive but as soon as it shifts into 3rd at about 30 miles per hour it jumps into neutral? If yes, you have a burnt 3/4 clutch. The transmission will need rebulit. Cost of about 1600 dollars.

My 97 yukon did the same thing (I believe). The valve body in the transmisson wears out (design problem) and causes the transmission to shift really hard. My repair was about $500 (nondealer).
