What kind of auto trans fluid - 2003 Pontiac Sunfire

Look in your owner's manual in specifications. You will find out.
DexronII and DexronIII why the specification of the oil transmission is all related to additives and temperature of oil before it degraded.
But I believe for 2003 Pontiac Sunfire is DexronIII.

The 2003 Sunfire has been updated from Dexron II or III to Dexron VI per a Technical Service Bulletin from GM.

Automatic Transmission, 4T40-E Initial Fill..........6.5 liters
Automatic Transmission, Total Fill 4 speed 4T40-E..........12.2 liters

Good luck and hope this helps, if you do use Synthetic transmission oil, make sure it's a Low Viscosity Synthetic Transmission oil. High viscosity transmission oil will cause the gear shifting to stick and will cause shifting issues.

transfer case takes regular dexron3 auto trans fluid. nothing special. cheap fluid compared to other fluids for your truck.

How to add Auto Trans fluid to 1999 VW Beetle & what kind of fluid

Been there tried that. The unit is more or less sealed. You will need to go to a VW dealer to have the fluid checked and added, if required. Be very careful, there's an entry port on the top of the transmission that some cables/wires go through. If you break this seal there is no simple fix. It costs about $700 to have it replaced by the dealer.
