My car died on the freeway the other day. i was just driving and it lost power and i had to pull to the side of the road. Its at my house now and when i try to start it the engine rolls and the ignition attempts to start the motor, but it wont. Every once in awhile the car goes duhduh like its about to start then it goes back to turning over. After i let off the ignition the exhaust pops. Its a 2.3 turbo with a automatic transmission. Could it be running to rich? a friend said that it may be the timing chain. PLEASE HELP!!!
I had the same problem in my 96 9000, it turned out that the Direct Ignition coil, the red box on top of your engine had died, its an expensive part, used sometiems go for around 200 dollars, i found one in a junk yard after a month of looking, put it in the car and it fired right up, just unplug the old one and plug in the new one and you should be good.
Check ur timing chain first

make sure you are getting power to the ign system in both start and run positions on your ign switch then go from there.. does it have a security sys ? The pop you hear is prob . fuel igniting in the cylinders due to current being restored to the ign sys when released from the start pos. in other words you have power failure to the ign sys when the switch is in the run pos. timing also will cause that sound if the engine fires with a valve open. also check your security system. you wont always get a light as the module that turns on the light is what is badhttp://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.y...
