As per the problem which you mentioned,it indicates faulty or loose connected starter. But still to confirm the fault, you can get the battery tested by volt meter. It should show 12 volts. If there is 12 volts then battery is functioning and starter is the issue. One more thing. The starter gets power to start from the battery. The battery terminal is connected to starter. So with the ignition off, disconnect the battery to starter connection then clean the terminals and then reconnect the connections then recheck. If still the same problem then starter is the issue. Also in some cases if there is no or low fuel in the vehicles fuel tank then this types of problems are seen,so confirm the fuel quantity in the vehicle.---------------This will help you.Thanks.Helpmech.

1998 honda civic 1.6L has spark and fuel. Won't start. Sounds like it wants to. Put a new battery in. Starter sounds funny?

Check all of the fuses on your fuse panel under the hood. Pull them out and clean them and put them back in unless you notice that one is blown, then replace it.

My Honda Civic ESi wont start, it sounded like its not getting enough electricity even with a new battery..

Hi, this symptom is usually due to a starter with a shorted winding. Recommend you remove the starter and have it tested at the parts store. Let me know if you need instructions for removing the starter, and thanks for using FixYa.
