Trying to find the engine control module for 1991 olds cutlass siera sl

The firing order for a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra with a V6 engine is 1-6-5-4-3-2.

I will assume it is a 2.5 liter. The control module is bolted to the back of the block underneath the intake manifold. The assembly incorporates the crank sensor, module and coils. Just follow the spark plug wires and you will find it.

Its on the drivers side under dash on the pass side of the steering column,mounted behind instrument panel.

I am having a similar problem, but there is no check engine light. It seems that mine dies at the light or running, if the rpm's drop. I am wondering if the Idle air control valve is bad or possibly the ERG valve?

The mechanic should check on the ignition system first . Check the ignition switch, the ignition coil , the spark plug , the spark plug cable , the distributor assembly and the wires and the fuses.Check if there are worn out or destroyed then replace it. And then set the distributor timing mark and the firing order of the spark plug which is 1,3,4,2.These 1,3,4,2 are the number of the spark plug connecting to the distributor assembly.Then try to start the engine .The cause of the engine back fire is ignition timing not in order.

There is a micro switch at the top of the brake pedal that activates the brake lights when you depress the pedal. This switch likely has to be replaced. Any mechanic can do this in about 15 mins.

CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE AND CHECK FOR SPARK, ALSO CHECK FOR TROUBLE CODES THAT MAY BE STORED IN THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE.
