You might want to check beside the oil filter. This is usually the location on some older models

Oil light on and beeps has a quart low on it 2000 dodge caravan

3 possibilities. Bad oil sending unit. Bad crank bearings. So much sludge in the engine that the oil can't get back to the oil pan fast enough, this will cause bad crank bearings. I would pull a rocker arm cover first. If it is full of sludge, put it back on and drive it till it dies. save money for another car. If it is clean, replace the oil sending sensor.

Why do oil light come on after replaceing oil sending unit on 2005 dodge carvan

The engine produces oil pressure from the resistance(clearance ) between the bearings and crankshaft and the sending unit lets you know when there is no pressure. These switches ground the light in the dash around 5 psi. So as the engine gets warmer then the oil gets thinner with large amounts of clearance pressure drops. Test system with mechanical unit normal hot idle pressure should be 30-45 psi if low raise idle speed comes up then engine bearings are worn.

Oil light comes on when at idol

This is typically a sign of a couple of things. Depending on the mileage of the vehicle. Either you have little to no oil pressure at an idle, which would indicate either worn main bearings, or a weak oil pump, or, the oil sending unit is bad/clogged, and at an idle it does not register enough pressure so the light comes on. I am betting on the sending unit being bad.I had a Caravan that did the same thing and I fixed it for under $13.00. You can p/u one at any auto parts store and put it in yourself if you have some patience and the right tools (a socket, ratchet, and a common screwdriver) and a little time. If your engine is knocking at an idle, then it is not the sending unit and you are in need of some more serious engine repair. Hope this helps!

Greetings, Oil warning light and warning chime are activated when the vehicle slows at a stoplight or at low idle in a parking lot. When you accelerate or traveling at a normal pace there is no...

suspect the oil sending unit, it is mounted at the rear of the engine at the back lip of the intake manifold. I recommend that you install a manual oil gage in the the oil sending unit hole and start the eneine and get an accurate oil pressure reading before you replace the sending unit.....GOOD LUCK

Oil light came on when idling; oil changed; still happening occasionally. If I put it in park or neutral and rev it - the oil light goes out. Could it be the oil sending/pressure unit? Is there an easy way...

make sure are using a genuine dodge oil filter and correct grade of oil to check further you need to have the oil pressure checked using a master gauge a garage would do this for you if ok replace pressure switch if very low could be pump and bearing wear is the idle speed set too low i would check this

Dodge caravan '98, oil light on, plenty of oil

If the engine is not making any knocking type noises, check the oil pressure sending unit. If it is leaking oil then it needs to be replaced along with removing the rubber plug from the connector and cleaning the terminals. If the oil light still comes on then the oil pressure is definately low and could cause engine failure.

well when oil is cold its thicker
as the vehicle heats up the oil becomes thinner in the oil pan
in which when the vehicle reaches core temp the oil pump doesnt need to work as hard

heres some other areas to look at
bad oil sending unit
in the pan the oil pick up pump filter needs replacement
oil filter clogged
bad oil sensor
vacume leak
these things need to look for and adjust or replace
the oil pick up pump in pan needs to be serviced by service tech at the dealers this is something a do it yourselfer could not do on own with out proper tools
