The key that goes to the Volkswagen doesn't seem to enter at sometime. Almost like something is jammed in the ignition. After about 10 minutes of trying to force it into the ignition, it works, if we're lucky. Is there a problem with the key or the way we're putting it in?

I would inquire at a dealer about whether or not the lock cylinder is covered under warranty. my first and last repair method is a bit of graphite on the key and in the lock cylinder, if that does not work then a new lock cylinder is in order. these inevitably have their last moment at night, in adverse weather, a million miles from home. at that time you will rue the decision to not spend a couple hundred to get it fixed correctly. an ounce of prevention

Hi I own A 98 Chevy Malibu, my ignition locked n i had to put a new ignition switch in, well now my cars tellin me Something Theft Service. Im wonder what I need to do? Iv unhooked battery for hours ect...

You need to reset the theft system. To do this, try to start it. It should start and die. Then after it dies and the theft light is flashing, leave the key on for 10 minutes. After 10 min, the theft light should go out. After the theft light goes out, turn off the key. Count to 5, then restart it. Then it should work.

Sometimes I cannot get the key into the ignition, or it goes a little way in and gets stuck, and is hard to get out

Spray WD 40 or another lube into it to try to free it up. The tumblers will sometimes jam up with dirt and dust and this will free them up.

Code u1040 03 pontiac gp

Hi, if you are receiving a u1040 code ,the car needs to be put on a good scanner to see which module is not communicating this includes the pcm-ebcm-bcm-sir/sdm-ipc-radio and the pass key 111, you need to check the battery hots, ignition hots ,grounds and serial data lines to each module if the scanner cannot communicate with any of the modules, the serial data line will have a very low amount of voltage and will be moving between low voltages check all the fuses and relays battery connections and grounds, the ignition relay is a good one to check, also for the antitheft reprogram relearn there is a 30 minute relearn process ;;try to start the vehicle and release the key do not turn it off wait ten minutes until the security light goes out then turn the key off for 5 seconds and turn the key back on wait 10 more minutes for the light to go off again turn the key off for 5 seconds and then back on for 10 minutes more after the light goes off turn the key off for 5 seconds and now try to start the car, if it still doesn’t start then check for any connections under the hood for water damage or critter damage.

Take care

I just got a key for my 1998 cadillac sts but it will not start the car what do i do? It will open the doors and the alarm goes off but the car will not start.

Leave key in ignition and turn to ON (do not start) Leave in on position for exactly 10 minutes. After 10 minutes is up and your anti-theft light is off, then immediately start the car.
Sometimes the key also need to be reprogrammed for the car.
insert the key and turn the key to "on". The DIC will say "Remove Key, Starting Disabled", and the security light will remain on.

approx. 10 minutes later. Remove the key. wait 10 seconds and repeat this another two times, for a total of 30 minutes "key-in" time.

Now insert your key and start the engine.

To learn additional keys:
Start the engine up with a working key. Shut the engine off, and within 10 seconds, insert the next key you want to learn and turn it to "ON". When the security light goes out, that key is programmed. Repeat for the next key, up to 10 keys can be programmed per car.
