How do i remove the inside heater core from my 1993 mercury villager

    i tried that but cant see to get all nuts screws and or bolts out to remove plenum and photos avalable??

    thanks but i am now getting a lil heat but very lil..i am sure it was plagged and i got some of the **** out as before there was no circulation i couldnt get air or water to go through it..after many atempts of reverse flushing i now at least have some circulation :).....again thank you very much for your help

    our site has pics. I have shop manual for $15 plus postage.

    our site has a link to free online shop manuals. you have to remove instrument panel first. then remove plenum.
    alternate is to cut case and then reseal with silicone sealer. high technical skill needed though.

    If you are just getting cold air out of the heater, your problem is just that you have air trapped in teh cooling system and heater. Read the file on our site on how to "burp" the system, or just go to a shop that has Evac/Fill cooling system equipment and have them flush & fill system. It should cost about $75. The vacuum equipment will **** all the air out. Very common problem with today's cooling systems.

Did you remove the battery or did it go flat. Reset security and immobilizer. Does the battery have 12.2 volts.

The electronics inside the Mercury Villager are slightly primitive, however there should be a third wire connected to the original fuel pump, and it must be taken off and put onto the new fuel pump, this becomes a ground wire.

1997, Mercury Villager, NO HEAT. Flushed radiator, flushed heater core. Has a rear heating system, is there an additional heater core and maybe a valve in the rear heating system?
you have air trapped in system. If you could hang van like a deer in a tee, you could get the air out. Go to a sho with evac/fill equipment and have them purge the air. You are about 3 qts short of full

1993 mercury villager mini van. rear heater fan does not work? do u know why?

Yes, you have bad solder joints in the circuit borad on the relay in the front control head. There a 4 solder pins that needed to be resoldered. I posted a picture on this site or you can go to our Villager site and follow the directions.

I also repair them for $25 plus shipping. I send you a repaied heater control and then you send me yours back for the next person. You can do this. If not, let me know. I also have a shop manual & wiring diagram for $25. Factory manuals, not Haynes.

Replace heater core 1995 Mercury Villager
Unfortunately, this is one of the most complex and time consuming operations, short of changing the engine/transmission that can be done to the car.
The heater core is mounted in a box, inside the passenger compartment, almost dead center behind the dashboard and is mounted directly on the firewall to allow the hoses to go through. If you put your hand just above the accellerator pedal, and go toward the center console, you'll find the heater core box.
There is no way to remove the heater core from the engine compartment. In fact, other than draining the radiator and removing the hose clamps and a bolt or two, youll have little interaction with the engine compartment.
Begin by disabling the air bag system, by removing all power from the vehicle. Be SURE the air bags are disabled as they are extremely dangerous if they activate while you are working under the dash.
Next remove the entire instrument panel, and all the decorative plastic. To do this you may have to remove the steering wheel also. Be sure to label everything as you go. Then remove all the heater controls. Once done, you should be able to access the black heater box that the core rests in. Remove that, and if you have loosened the hoses and screws in the engine compartment, the heater core will come free and you can replace it.
For a much better and more detailed explanation of how to do this, I used the Haynes Repair Manual. (Note, Im not affiliated with them, they just had the best description of the procedure.)
I dont really recommend doing this yourself unless you are a very patient and reasonably accomplished mechanic. This will involve removal of all the dash, instruments and controls, and frankly, even when the dealer did this, the car is never quite the same again.
One other hint, after replacing the heater core, use a length of good heavy copper wire to wrap around one of the hose entry points (metal to metal contact) and then ground the core to the engine block or frame. This will help prevent the electrolysis that killed the core the in the first place.
