I got a plymoth colt vista 1993, sw 2wd. I was low on gas in the tank. I was driving when the car shut off, like you had turned the key off. So I thought I had run out of gas. After filling my tank to half full, I turned over the engine several times, for it to not start. I checked for spark. Yes on spark. I'm getting fire. So, where is the "fuel filter" and "fuel pump" located?????? And if I replace the spark plugs, wires, distributor, gas filter, fuel pump...... What would be the problem with it not starting? I have a good battery and starter. So far, everything is pointing to the fuel filter or fuel pump....... Where are they located???

SOURCE: colt idle problem.

Most likely you have a bad Idle motor which is a small motor mounted on the intake manifold. If the motor can run better with your foot on the gas but dies if removed then it is probably this. This motor is controlled by the OBDII computer which gets it's control signal from the temp sensor which is located either on the radiator or engine block (which could also be bad), if the electric fan (if equipped) turns on then this is not the problem part, but the idle motor is. Another possibility is that you have some bad /cracked vacuum hoses which should be checked for first, before replacing the idle motor.

SOURCE: 98 plymouth neon (automatic) starting problem

shoot some starting fluid in the air intake and try to start again. If it starts you have a fuel problem. If still no start could be an ignition problem.

SOURCE: 1997 Neon dies, starts after electric fuel pump relay swapped

Hello, I would assume this is your fuel pump inside your tank. I would first however do some basics like a general tuneup. For starters I would replace your spark plugs and wires, rotary cap and button and check your fuses. Run some injector cleaner through your system. You know quick simple cheap things before you get to the fuel pump inside the gas tank which can be kinda expensive. The warm up then dies can be caused by, "blownout or fouled," spark plugs. I hope this gives you a general direction in which to go. A sidenote is that coil packs do not normally run an igntion code and I for one do not like them becuase they are expensive.

SOURCE: Car shuts off

I would check the Idle Air Ctrl. valve.if not opening when coming to a stop eng will starve for air cause air is not bypassing the throttle plate when the plate is closed

Car will not start. Has fuel spark, the when the plugs are removed are wet

You have a stuck fuel injector. It is leaking gas into the cylinder(s). If the fuel regulator is bad- the fuel pressure is almost always too low.

Got '93 Colt Vista...Transmission not shifting as should; if electric overdrive is turned on, transmission self-downshifts to low after warming up.

My 1993 Plymouth Colt Vista is doing something similar. It won't go into any gear - forward or reverse. It probably will need a transmission overhaul or rebuild - looking at just under $2000. Pricing online is $1380 for FWD and $1560 for AWD as of July 2010. Includes a 1 year warrantee and $300 for the core. Does not include labor; just ordering the part.
