XK8 abs module

I need to replace the abs module in my 2001 XK8. I'm wondering how long the job should take and if I can drive the car once the module is removed

I had the unit replace on my 9007 XK8 by a local mechanic.  It took two days as one day was taken with delivery of part.  Replacement just take a little less than two hours.  It would appear there are two versions of modules, one if the car has stability control and one if the car does not.  My car has stability control.

I could drive the car with the module not functioning.  I did not have stability control nor the ABS function.

2000 XK8 needs ABS Module "Warning: Trac and ASC not available, dealership wants $2,500 for the job, any suggestions where I can get the work performed cheaper in the New York City area. Also how much does the part cost and how much labor involved? Any help would be appreciated

I have exact same problem on my 2000 XK8. ABS & Tract control lights on. Price is around $1200 for part plus labor. Does anyone have souce of used or is module rebuildable? Does anyone know what the OEM part# is? I've driven it for a year now with problem. Dealer told me it's OK, but traction control and ABS system is disabled.

I have a 1998 XK8 with the ABS light on also- the dealer said it would cost $2500 to fix it. Has anyone found a less expensive way to do this? How bad is it to just leave the ABS system disabled?

We have the same problem with our BMW. Dealer quoted close to $1500, with a one year parts warranty. Go to Module Masters at www.modulemasters.com.

They show detailed info on how to remove your unit, and will rebuild one for a 2001 XK8 for $150. The unit for our BMW is $300.

I have heard great comments about Module Masters. Well worth a shot!

You shouldn't even have to unplug the module. If the ABS light is illuminated it means there is a fault in the system and your ABS is not working properly. If you are driving it, you are currently driving without ABS brakes.

Abs and brake light come on sometime . had a person look at it and said i need a abs control module unit but the brake sytem is working very good

Your normal braking will work fine even if the ABS control module is defective. You will however have no functioning ABS in an emergency when it is needed. You can continue to drive it without ABS but if you want the ABS to work you will have to have it repaired.

sounds like you need a speed sensor as well as an ABS module. it runs the speedometer, as well as inform on the wheel speed to make the ABS work, AND the transmission uses it to know when to shift.

generally do not drive it when the O/D light is flashing, it means an issue bad enough to cause serious damage to the trans.

I have the same problem on my 1998 XK8

Seek the Jag-Lovers.com website for Dan Jensen's article on repairing the ABS Electronic control board (seems a solder joint becomes intermittent). This is a common trouble in XK8s... mine needed to be replaced recently too....

2001 Audi S4 ABS engagement, electronic buzz and shudder

Your car, like mine, has suffered the usual ABS pump electronics failure.

I have an almost identical car.

There are some great threads on the net on repairing them, however the wires inside it are just shockingly small, hair sized, and not a job for even the best "DIY" solderer.

Replace the electronics module on the side of the ABS pump, it doesn't need the brake pipes loosening or anything. It is easy to swap.

Then your ABS will work as it should.

You will NEED to find a used unit, or have yours repaired though, new ones are rediculously expensive.

Great Car though.

ABS Light And Stability controll light

The most likely root cause of the problem has been determined, and its step by step fix is also detailed if you have the skills to do that yourself. See the excellent detailed website posting by Dan Jensen on the Jag-lovers.org site forums.jag-lovers.org under avsn.php?1169101j41 . He describes what goes wrong in the $2800 ABS control electronic board, and that simply re-soldering a few heavy wires to the board will fix the trouble. But it requires some mechanical work to get that module out, and then some more work to saw the plastic case apart to get to that circuit board. - Best regards - MHH
