I had the unit replace on my 9007 XK8 by a local mechanic. It took two days as one day was taken with delivery of part. Replacement just take a little less than two hours. It would appear there are two versions of modules, one if the car has stability control and one if the car does not. My car has stability control.
I could drive the car with the module not functioning. I did not have stability control nor the ABS function.I had the unit replace on my 9007 XK8 by a local mechanic. I have exact same problem on my 2000 XK8. ABS & Tract control lights on. Price is around $1200 for part plus labor. Does anyone have souce of used or is module rebuildable? Does anyone know what the OEM part# is? I've driven it for a year now with problem. Dealer told me it's OK, but traction control and ABS system is disabled.

I have a 1998 XK8 with the ABS light on also- the dealer said it would cost $2500 to fix it. Has anyone found a less expensive way to do this? How bad is it to just leave the ABS system disabled?I have a 1998 XK8 with the ABS light on also- the dealer said it would cost $2500 to fix it. Has anyone found a less expensive way to do this? Repaired my abs module for under $50. Cost $200 to remove and replace upon return of the repaired unit. Rebuild works just fine, warranty is for the lifetime of the car.
Actually i ca't tell you how long will it take to replace it, but yes it will be driveable while module is out, just keep in mind than you will have not air bag protection while module is not there

part off the module fixed to the pump modulator assembly on lhs under bonnet. common problem, check pump motor resistance should be low 3ohms or less if ok module may be at fault.somtimes you have to change both but it normally the motor brushes stuckworn out
the electronic part of the unit ie. module is seperate from the pump unit and can be interchanged someone may have put a module from a different unit on to your pump motor unit ie, from a xkr which as a differant connector
I suggest scanned the ABS module in order to know fault codes stored there; sometimes just need speed wheel sensor adjustemtn, but need the real fault code in there.
You shouldn't even have to unplug the module. If the ABS light is illuminated it means there is a fault in the system and your ABS is not working properly. If you are driving it, you are currently driving without ABS brakes.
Your normal braking will work fine even if the ABS control module is defective. You will however have no functioning ABS in an emergency when it is needed. You can continue to drive it without ABS but if you want the ABS to work you will have to have it repaired.
sounds like you need a speed sensor as well as an ABS module. it runs the speedometer, as well as inform on the wheel speed to make the ABS work, AND the transmission uses it to know when to shift.
generally do not drive it when the O/D light is flashing, it means an issue bad enough to cause serious damage to the trans.
Seek the Jag-Lovers.com website for Dan Jensen's article on repairing the ABS Electronic control board (seems a solder joint becomes intermittent). This is a common trouble in XK8s... mine needed to be replaced recently too....
Your car, like mine, has suffered the usual ABS pump electronics failure.
I have an almost identical car.
There are some great threads on the net on repairing them, however the wires inside it are just shockingly small, hair sized, and not a job for even the best "DIY" solderer.
Replace the electronics module on the side of the ABS pump, it doesn't need the brake pipes loosening or anything. It is easy to swap.
Then your ABS will work as it should.
You will NEED to find a used unit, or have yours repaired though, new ones are rediculously expensive.
The most likely root cause of the problem has been determined, and its step by step fix is also detailed if you have the skills to do that yourself. See the excellent detailed website posting by Dan Jensen on the Jag-lovers.org site forums.jag-lovers.org under avsn.php?1169101j41 . He describes what goes wrong in the $2800 ABS control electronic board, and that simply re-soldering a few heavy wires to the board will fix the trouble. But it requires some mechanical work to get that module out, and then some more work to saw the plastic case apart to get to that circuit board. - Best regards - MHH
