My wife has a Hyundai Getz diesel (1.5 CRTD GSI) which starts fine from completely cold. It also starts fine after it's warmed up completely. The problem is when you try to start the engine when it has not warmed up enough. Revs won't go higher than about 1500 and you press the accelarator thick black smoke comes out of the exhaust. If you try to drive off while the car is in this state it won't move much faster than about 5 mph while it's giving out black sooty smoke out of the exhaust

Hi,
I've the same probem, it's been 'fixed' twice in the cars life but re-occurs.
I believe the throttle body gets 'gunked-up' possibly due to a faulty solenoid or sensor.
I don't have a full solution but will post when I do.

    hi ninjabadger, it's me again...you have also posted a message about the same problem on the "honest John" forum and I replied by ending with something like "...watch this space.."
    Well..car came back from the garage and so far so good.
    The following was written on the invoice:

    THROTTLE BODY JAMMED SHUT UPON STARTING (so there is your problem clearly stated)
    THROTTLE BODY REMOVED AND CLEANED, INCLUDING ACTUATOR.
    THROTTLE BODY REFITTED.
    EGR VALVE CLEANED.

    IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THIS CLEANING PROCESS IS CARRIED OUT EVERY OTHER SERVICE.

    Now they said that the cause of the gunging up of these components was a faulty Exhaust Gas Return (EGR) valve solenoid. So, they also replaced the solenoid ! Or so they said..Now it's a reputable garage and I hesitate starting to suspect that they are not telling the truth about replacing the solenoid. They said that that's what their diagnostic tests indicated...but why on earth did diagnostics not pick that up in the first place?...me thinks..

    Anyway...they did not charge me for replacing the solenoid. They said that once I'm totally satisfied that the car continues to work well (as far as this problem is concerned) then I can go in and pay them for the solenoid. (Aren't they generous!!)

    So I'll give it a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

    I would be interested in finding out how the cleaning process mentioned above is carried out so that I can carry it out myself because it's not a cheap job !! Also because it's really a lovely car in every other respect !

    THAT'S WHERE YOU CAN HELP NINJABADGER! CAN YOU FIND OUT HOW THIS CLEANING PROCESS IS CARRIED OUT? I WILL FIND OUT SOONER OR LATER, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER !

Hi I have a Hyundai Tucson 2L crtd gsi. When the engin is running its fine no problems, but it wont always fire up, when cranking over the engin turns over but dose not start, I have to remove the key...

It is Not any of the above as it reads it cranks but no start. I would edge my bets on immobiliser relay is more like your problem as it clicks when key is removed. People please read the question in full and think about it before you leave your wrong answers

could be.your fuse, could be broken ground, bad bulb socket, did you check to see if you have power at bulb socket first ? check your owners manual, it will tell you which fuse it is

hi from uk for your info there was a recall back in2004/5 for the getz relating to the abs system going faulty my wifes 2003 getz gsi was recalled and i took car to dealers for her to enquire what fault has there beenon some getz with abs system? as fault had not occured on ours ? apparently there had been a fault with the wire loom to pump particularly the earh cable deteriating ? so this loom had to be inspected and replaced under warranty however as i had waxoiled all underneath our getz including abs pump due to its location low down the loom was ok but was changed anyway and recorded and a dated sticker placed on cars glove compartment door inside to verify loom changed ? SO b4 you progress any further i would check with hyundai tech dept to whether you car had been inspected or whether slipped through unchecked ? your gran should have had a recall as we did for modified loom hope this helps?

If it says "airbag" on the stering wheel AND on the dash in front of the passenger,then it has a passengers side airbag.
Children are much safer in the back seat in the event of a collision.
