Replace the cable with one from your local auto parts store or dealer.
It may be for cruise control if your cruise control no longer works.
Or, it may be for the accelerator pedal.

The throttle cable is connected to throttle plate. When you depress the throttle body the air enters in the engine. There are mostly two cables coming from throttle body. One comes from gas pedal, and the other the transmission. The transmission one is called 'kickdown cable', it tells the transmission when to 'kickdown' to a lower gear. Pressing hard on the gas pedal makes the car down-shift because the kickdown cable to the tranny gets pulled tight. The tighter the pressure on the kickdown, the less pedal pressure it will take to make it downshift. You can get the cable replaced or the plate as per the damage. The required parts can be easily available at local car auto parts.Or at home depot.

I have a 1992 that is idling high and when I take foot of petal it accelerates on its own to. 55 mph. I think some piece broke of throttle cable. Help. Ford was not helpful at all.

I would not drive it this way. There are several parts which may cause this. Am concerned as what was involved with Ford not being helpful. Like did they look at it or work on it?

There is a throttle return spring in the throttle mechanism. Sometimes there are 2 springs with 1 being in the throttle cable and the other being in the shafts that the throttle plates are attached to. For this you would (WITH THE ENGINE OFF) disconnect the throttle cable and see if the lever on the engine manifold closes.

If it does close more with the cable off, then the cable is jamming. If not, then you need to check the opening where the air comes through the engine after removing the plastic snorkel from the engine air horn. The flapper inside this opening should more freely but be under spring tension.

There is an electronic part called a throttle position sensor. It can break, but usually does other things than what you have.

Intake manifold leak or vacuum hose leak. The vacuum system needs to be sealed from the outside. To understand this just know that when you press on the gas pedal, the engine gets more air along with the gasoline. When you have a leak, putting more air into the motor, it will speed up.

Jammed cruise control cable or defective cruise control. Did you have it set at 55MPH? Maybe it is not releasing.

Of all of these there are no free fixes, just some that cost less than others. A simple hole in a vacuum line could be fixed with a new line or tape.

Good luck on this.

Change thermostat on 2004 chevy impala?

first you need drain engine coolant down below thermostat. what engine type 3.8 or 3.4 need to know.the 3.8 engine thermostat housing on top intake follow top radiator hose to thermostat housing.the 3.4 engine you have to remove air filter housing with air inlet duct with mass air flow sensor.you have to remove throttle body with coolant hoses.go to auto parts store buy new throttle body hoses old ones will be hard to remove might have to cut two small hoses also buy new throttle body gasket also. before you can remove throttle body unit you have to remove accelerator cable and downshift cable from bracket bolted to throttle body.once throttle body remove then you can remove thermostat housing bolt remove replace thermostat.

My 2001 Toyota Camry will not accelerate. The pedal gives no response to the engine. If I replace the throttle position sensor would that be all I need to look at?

i would not just go buy a tps on a guess
first check to see if you can bring the throttle up by hand at the motor where the throttle cable connects to the throttle body it may be a cable that broke
