Front End Noise in 2005 Nissan, Maxima

I have the same problem. I hear a thumping sound coming from the front part of the car after I let go of the gas pedal and let the car glide and deaccelarate on its own. This usually occurs after I have reached over 40 mph. I have taken the car to the dealer and the mechanic says he doesn't hear anything. Supposedly they had someone else drive it and they too did not hear it. So, I made my husband drive it back from the dealer (he too was skeptical to this "thumping sound). Finally, he said he heard it too. So he turned the car around and brought it back to the dealer. They called back again saying they hear no noise. I find this hard to believe; however, I don't know what else to do. I'm scared to drive the car especially since I drive my 3 year old daughter in it. My husband knows nothing about cars. Should I keep it at the dealer until they find something? Should I take it somewhere else? Should I just trade the car in? Also, the car is approaching the end of the 3 year warranty in a couple of weeks. I don't know if this has any input, but I thought I would mention it. It currently has 30,000miles on it. I am also experiencing several problems with my 2005 Nissan Maxima that only has 37,000 miles. It started last spring with the rotors when there was only 30,000 miles on the car at the time. I had to get new brakes and new rotors, which to me seemed "early" for the amount of miles I had on my car to previous cars I had in the past. A week later, I took it back in and they had to give me a new set of rotors since the first set warped (cheap steel my mechanic blamed it on, but luckily the rotors were under warranty).



Those lasted 7 months. I just began hearing a metal grinding/clicking noise when I am braking now. (It's embarassing to drive because I think people at stop lights are worried if my car will stop. Sounds like a piece of junk!)



When I told my mechanic, he thought the rotors were defective again. He ordered the "top of the line" rotors this time and for a few days we thought the problem was fixed. However, in less than 5 days, I had to take it back in and the mechanic hooked it up to a scanner & he told me that it is the ABS sensors that are bad.



He told me that Nissan has a "Service Bulletin" out on it but it is not a recall. Each sensor costs about $203 plus labor will come to $590.00 appx. to fix this problem so it is costly! (Since it happened 1000 miles over the 3yr/36,000 miles it is not warranteed anymore....go figure)



I can across a few web sites and some have said water is getting trapped and they are corroding (rusting out) the sensors. Nissan is aware of the issue since they have published a service bulletin, but they say it is a left sensor issue and mine is the right side. Obviously there are issues with both sides.



This car has been a big dissapointment since I got it. From the rotten egg smell that occured from day 1 and still happens frequently, to the noise when I accelerate that sounds like I am going up a roller coater hill, to the breaking noise I have now, I feel like I am driving a junk yard car. The pep of the car and the look of the car doesn't compensate for all the aggravation it has caused me. I can't believe the Maxima is supposedly the "flagship" car.

I have it now on our 2004 maxima. I believe it is a sensor on your anti lock brake system. I'm guessing the ones at the wheel...It only happens when your break is at a certain point, and it sounds almost like fluid pulses and then a bi "clunk" noise...I can also here my anti lock break motor at the time of the sound which leads me to believe the anti lock system is getting a bad sense. I dont know what to do except replace sensors, but like someone mentioned they are cstly and what if it's not that? or which one? I hate that!! I have it now on our 2004 maxima. I had my front and rear brakes done in 2008 so I assumed by bringing it back to the dealer they could tell me what was wrong with my brakes. Apparently it's not my regular brakes but my ABS brakes that need to be repaired. They told me due to water moisture getting in I needed to replace my rear wheel hubs because they were defective which would cost me approximately $500 and my wheel sensors were corroded. I am eventually going to need a brake actuator for the car which is going to cost me a mere $2,000. Well guess what, I don't have $2,000 to fix a 2005 car!!! It gets better, now there is a humming noise in my car that won't turn off because apparently my ABS pump is consrtantly running, so it's just a matter of time before I need to replace the battery as well. I have read so many complaints about it. His had to be replaced on the right rear. They replaced that and then told us that it needed to have an abs actuator replaced as a result of the speed sensor. We have had continuous problems with this car and have only had it for 7 months. I will never buy another Nissan.

I don't think it is the brakes as I have had both front and back brakes replaced within the last month. The noise began after I made a deep left turn at a drive through. The noise occurs while driving; not braking.My transmission on this car abruptly failed and was replaced by Nissan just two weeks ago. The sound started when I made a sharp left turn at a drive through window. It has been doing it ever since. It squeals while driving but not braking in particular. The sound got a little louder after I got the brake pads replaced. I am due for my 60K maintenance also.
