Check your battery for proper volts (12.6). Sometimes the cold weather will bring a battery down. Also check the Starter Relay, again cold weather will make it stick causing it not to start. Those are the biggest problems with a car not starting in the cold weather unless you have something else going on then your starter and your ignition needs to be checked.

It could be your fuel pump, your fuel could be freezing depending on how cold of weather you are having, it also could be the fuel filter. Turn the ignition switch to the on position and see if you can hear the fuel pump running. If you cannot hear it running then there is your problem, if you can hear it running, then the culprit would most likely be either the fuel pump relay or filter.

i changed the fuel filter and rear line. truck runs great but just starts hard as for fuel freezing not yet i live in wisconsin

Check your spark, make sure that it is igniting all of the fuel. The last thing to check would be your air filter.

Toyota Fortuner 3l D4D Engine swings (cranks) longer than normal before start, at the same time the gear lever shakes violently when starting. I am really concerned about this.

Question edited for a lot more clarity. Never heard of a Toyota Fortuner before. In North America where we are, we call it cranking, but know the African continent is called swings.

For the gear lever shaking check the engine and transmission rubber mounting blocks. They can part from the metal mounts.

The engine is a 3 litre turbo diesel, so it probably just needs a good service, check compression, check glow plugs and injectors.

My Toyota Passo. It has a problem to start when it gets cold. What can I do please?

Help in the link.

I would check spark plugs for gap and condition. Clean Throttle Body and MAF. Make sure battery is fully charged. You probably need a good auto-electrician.

1. I have a Toyota AE91 Sprinter SE 1989 5E engine. Even driving at 80kph it DOES NOT engage the overdrive. What could be the problem. 2. In the morning it gets hard start, but starts OK for the rest...

The starting issue could be due to a bad battery. Hard starting in the morning is usually associated with the cold. Low temperatures, create hard starting/cranking for your battery.
You will see a CCA rating on your battery, in my 4wd it is 600CCA that means it has 600 Cold Cranking Amps. That means it is the amount of current my battery can provide at O deg F. Car manufacturers only use cheap standard duty batteries.

If it is a 4 speed automatic with a power/ecconomy button it won't engage overdrive. You put it in ecconomy for normal driving and power for towing.

My wifes 2003 toyota highlander when she starts it there is what appears to be a gas fume like smell in the car. it seems to go away when the engine isd warm

You should have the fuel injectors and the especially the "cold start injector" checked for leaks. The cold start injector only operates during cold starts. If you don't notice the problem during warm starts, then the cold start injector is the place to start.

Hard starts in the morning even though replaced most parts

Check the power to the cold start injector. (it's only going to have fire for a few sec. after the key is turned on). If the fire is good, replace the cold start injector. This injector is activated for a few seconds when the engen temp is low to add a little fuel lower down in the intake and closer to the pistons.
