Hi,

Disconnect the battery. You will need to put the car up on jack stands, get under the car, drain the oil, remove the catalytic converter (which can be aggravating without a lift hoist, which I am assuming you don't have), remove the starter and flywheel cover, remove the oil pan (held on by about twenty 8mm bolts all the way around), clean the gasket surface, install a new gasket (put a small amount of RTV in the corners only!), install the pan (tighten the bolts evenly to about 100 inch pounds--CAUTION: that is not very tight, do not over tighten!), reinstall everything, fill the oil, and happy trails.

"Which can be aggravating" only hints at the misery you will invite when you have to remove the Y pipe assembly attached to the catalytic converter. Before you remove the first screw on the oil pan, make sure you can do it. I spent most of yesterday prepping the surfaces, working the gasket in from the outside of the pan and getting the silicone and screws done with 1 1/2 " of clearance, because I couldn't. No leaks, but oh my god. As my dad would have said "It could make a preacher cuss."

Good luck.

SOURCE: my 2003 ford taurus has oil pan gasket leak just

All you have to do is get under the car with a 1/2" drive ratchet, 3" extension, an extension swivel, and the socket for the bolts on the oil pan. Go through all the bolts and tighten them all up. You will be surprised at how loose some of them are.

Replaced oil pan gasket 2003 ford taurus with 211,000 miles. ran fine that night then next day rocker arms loose. i took off valve cover lifters are not collapsed. is valve springs wore can i put washers...

If this all happened after pan gasket change, chances are you knocked the oil pump pickup and the pump is sucking air. You've lost oil pressure. Fix that. Do NOT add washers. That's not your problem.

I HAVE 1997 FORD TAURUS, AND IT HAD AN OIL LEAK, HOW CAN I TELL IF IT IS THE OIL PAN OR A BLOWN HEAD GASKET?

the head gasket is on the engine higher than the oil pan so if the leak is not were the head meets the cylinder block and running down towards the bottom of the motor then the head gasket is not the problem.if the leak is only around the oil pan area and slightly above it then its probably the oil pan that is leaking.fluid leaks travel backwards or downwards not up.

2003 Taurus-engine revs way over 2000 rpm when in park-vehicle pulls itself along at 45-50mph without touching accelerator-in reverse RPMs seem normal. I just had the oil pan gasket replaced a few days...

You have a massive vacuum leak somewhere. I would check the intake manifold gaskets for leaks and to see if the Idle Air Control valve is stuck open.

How to replace oil pan gasket?

Very easy, dirty, messy, job. Grab few item from auto zone. Such as rtv sealant gasket itself, a blade or something to remove the old gasket. 4-8 quarts of oil 10w40 synthetic. Oil filter oil filter remover socket set. Run car for 5 minutes. Drain oils. Recycle it... Dart removing the screws around the oil pan. Once remove clean the surface remove the old gasket with shart razor blade make sure do not damage the surface where the gasket go. The gasket go between the oil pan and the engine mating surface . Clean the pan and clear as much gunk you can out the pump opening or tube. put rtv sealant ( some don't need the gasket because they r the gasket.) place gasket putt screw back it. Change filter refill the car with oil ( 4-8 depending on engine size) That's it.

I need to replace the oil pna, is it a easy one to fix?

Replacing the oil pan isn't particularly difficult, but you may have some trouble getting to it since there is often a cross-brace or something else to obstruct free access to the pan. Once the bolts are loose, the pan should just come down. The gasket may have stuck a little so you may need to persuade it.
If you have a cross-brace obstructing access, you may need to disconnect the motor mount and lift the engine a little.
Hope that helps; and good luck.

2003 Taurus 24V DOHC, have engine oil covering oil pan. I thought is was the oil pan gasket, mechanic did not seem to think so. Put dye in and trying to find the leak source. Is there a common leak problem...

Oil leak can be attributed to several factors.
1. Gasket failure.
2. Uncontrolled Crank case pressure Failure.

RECOMENDATION:
Tighten both the valve cover and oil pan bolts.
Replace the Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve and vacuum line.,

INFO: PCV
This is a valve causes a negative vacuum on the engine while its running, As to say if it had a leak in a valve cover it should not be leaking while its running, only when the engine it turned off.

Hope this tip guides you in the correct direction to solve this problem.

Ford econoline 350 87 i need to change

the only difficult part is catching all the fluid, i would recommend doing the filter while your at it it is extremly easy, if you can change your oil you can do a filter and a gasket,
one recomendation though put the bolts through the holes in the pan and through and the gasket before you put the pan on the gasket will hold the bolts in place and you wont have to try and line up the rubber gasket to the holes lying upside down under your van
