check that you put the thermostat in the right way. Body into the water and not the hose. Check that the fan circuit is operational with the fuses and relays operating normally. If it is an auto check the temperature of the transmission oil as it is cooled by the radiator and that will make the car run hot if the oil is over heating from a transmission fault.
you need to perform a cooling system pressure test on the cooling system and test the radiator cap, taurus's had problem the coolant tanks splitting, and defective caps, also have a co2 test performed to determine if you have a headgasket leaking exhaust gasses into cooling system 23yr ford tech..
If both heater hoses are getting hot, the problem could be a stuck blend door under the dash. If only one hose is getting hot, there is a blockage in the coolant flow somewhere.
You can bleed the system of air by removing the radiator cap while the engine is cold. Turn the heater on high and let the vehicle run until it reaches operating temperature. The thermostat will open several times and purge the system of air. Feel the top radiator hose occasionally until it heats up. Don't forget to replace the radiator cap.
SOUND LIKE RADIATOR HOSES AND RADIATOR.ONLY WAY TO CHECK IS FILL UP RADIATOR WITH COOLANT.CRANK UP CAR UNTIL WARMS UP.LET RADIATOR PRESSURE BUILD UP.THEN TURN OFF CAR.LOOK FOR WATER LEAKS AT RADIATOR HOSES AND AROUND THE RADIATOR.
Sounds like your water pump might be going out have you tried flushing the radiator to make sure its not blocked. You changed the thermo so it could be a clogged radiator a bad water pump
over heating, was running very good, could it be the water pump impeller as
I am told the impeller is plastic.
